Root Froyo (2.2)

Got cm6 working fine now, gonna take the chance, and delete ADW launcher, replace with Golauncher.mms works , camera, and video works, I don't mind if the phone chooses what I can, or cant move to sd. My voicemail number on cricket is *89, and I have no problems with that, guess cricket chooses. The only problem I see, is that my screen rotation doesn't work sometimes for certain things(very little though). The newest build(42..), still needs work, almost bricked it with that. What I need to know is, are the usb functions bidirectinal enough to accept a usb flash for the camera?

The screen rotation is a bug in cm6. There are some things that you can do to help with it but some phones it works on and some it doesn't.

About the USB flash for the camera? I don't know but I would be interested in finding out, where did you get it?

Never got one, was just asking. It seems that would be a easy idea for our usb ports. I installed golauncher, and for the most part, the rotation problems gone. I kinda liked ADW, but golauncher"s customizations won out.

lol you can do what i do and others keep both cm6/7 backup on your sdcard and just switch when you want to...you get the best of both Worlds.:D:D:D
hah thats cool. do you do that as a nandroid? or do you reinstall one without wiping? whats the best way to go about that.
and what I was thinking, is there a way to kind of have both. the CM6 engine actually runs soo so much faster and smoother. but little things like how cm7 and stuff seemed better. I can't load the mms from 2.3 onto my CM6 or load little parts. My titanium backup has everything from every version backed up so i can try it. but i just want to see if thats a horrible idea before doing that. lol.

Horrible idea. It would be nice if we could do that but out doesn't work that way.

I have two sd's with cm6 on them, same system settings. One is bigger, so that's in phone, the other is just a backup. Sd's are usually cheap in lower capacities, I plan to have a library of roms for my phone, and sd's to use. Should I wait for finished roms before saving, or go with the flow?

that all depends on you. CM6 is purdy much finished with a few additions in the works but no ETAs on when or if they come n dont ask for a ETA lol. but with its builds you pretty safe regardless. With CM7, which is great fast n featured packed, but its a WIP n has a few bugs here n there. So like I said its all in what u want to deal with ;)

any way i keep both back ups on my sdcard and when i want to switch roms i just go to cwm and go to backup and restore any rom i want no wiping needed...others have dont it as well....whats the deal?

FROYO 2.2 metropcs SOFTWARE UPDATE
http://store.handmark.com/p/189294/ascend-software-update-for-android/
dont know maybe you already posted this. i was browsing the handmark downloads that came with my metropcs phone. it says an upgrade to go from eclair to froyo 2.2. check it out. if my link isn't any good, search the handmark site.
I will check it out. Currently I have CM7 but i did make a nandroid backup of my original eclair before upgrading. I wonder if I should try this out or not. And if I do, I may have to go back to what I had. Maybe if this is legit, someone can use this to improve an updated, less bloated version. Hope this is what we all been looking for. Let me know if anyone does this.

Yeah i have no real idea. I just been seeing so many people talking and waiting for this update and I think I found it. I do have the CM7 gingerbread mod now but it looks identical to my brothers virgin mobile Optimus V with official android 2.2. The CM6 mod doesnt look anything like official 2.2 (the launcher has to do with that I'm sure). I think the main differences is the keyboard improvements. i have no idea how it all really works but if that is an official upgrade, maybe its worth checking out and seeing how it is.. or building off it for a better mod. For now i think it seems to be a downgrade from our CM7. not too mention it might be bloated. but its an official upgrade so that probably means something. I have a nandroid backup of my eclair, I don't know how these upgrades work. ill probably have to reflash back to that backup and upgrade. I might try it and if it doesnt work out, flash back to my CM7 mod. I love the mod but the headphones dont work during a phonecall. Can't afford to buy any hardware or anything for now. I'm sure eventually they might upgrade again to gingerbread but not until it becomes the standard with those companies. probably will take them a year. If anyone knows anymore please let me know. otherwise if you want and i successfully do it, i'll show you how it is. anyone else tries it, please do the same.

when ever metro release that 2.2 which i doubt anytime soon will definitely be a downgrade from cm6/7 and slower with bloatware and other add on apps to slow down you ascend, but i always say, go for what works for you, :D but thats just my opinion.;)

One thing I would bet money on is, there will NEVER be an official Gingerbread update for this phone. Even Froyo is iffy. It looks like you will get it on Metro, I'm pretty sure Cricket never will. ("officially" at least)

CM6/7 are built from AOSP, aka pure Android source, not cooked (existing ROM, modded, cleaned, etc, not build from source.). So CM6/7 look more like vanilla Android than what a carrier does/has done to it. AOSP is black with white text, if its any other color it has been done by the carrier/manufacturer, not google. And 2.2 doesnt look anything like 2.3, doesnt run anything like 2.3, and quite frankly, cannot compete with 2.3.

Yeah i reaally do appreciate knowing more. I am very new to cell technology but not to evrrything else. That updaate turned out to be a waste of time for now.its blank and has no updates yet listed. I certainly love the cm7 ascend mod. Just cant use ny headphones but when i get the chance il probably just useva bluetooth or something. Sorry about the postand thanks a lot for your help

From what i know of, cm6 headphones work during calls, but on cm7 that might be a issue for some, but you can backup your current rom and try cm6 and see if it works and if you like it...:D
