Updated to 2.2 using the update.zip method. Ever since:
Been having some strange problems like mentioned in this thread. 3G randomly disappearing and the like.
Tonight my phone battery died. I am 100% sure 3G was working at most 5 minutes before it died.
I plugged it into a charger, and turned it on.
1st boot:
5 minutes after it booted up, 3G still had not connected. I tried the airplane mode trick (enable airplane mode, then disable airplane mode), as this had previously worked for me once when 3G went out randomly. When I enabled airplane mode (by pressing and holding the power button for the phone options menu, and then selecting airplane mode), it stumbled for a moment, and then appeared to have enabled it, and the phone options menu disappeared. However, no airplane mode icon in the notifications bar. I waited 5 minutes, and nothing changed. Pressed and held the power button again and the phone options menu indicated that it was in airplane mode, and the option was grayed out. However, I could still make phone calls. I rebooted.
2nd boot:
Came up in airplane mode. But Mobile Defense crashed on boot. I turned off airplane mode, and 3G came back. But since my mobile defense program crashed, I rebooted.
3rd boot:
When it booted this time, it had no 3G again. I waited for 5 minutes and still no 3G. Tried the airplane mode thing again, and it "hung" when putting it into airplane mode again. Just as before. Rebooted.
4th boot:
Came up in airplane mode. Mobile Defense crashed again. Turned off Airplane mode. 3G came back. But, again, since mobile defense crashed, i just chose to reboot.
5th boot.
No 3G. Waited 5 minutes. Still no 3G. Avoided airplane mode this time. rebooted.
6th boot.
3G! All worked! But I saw a trend of every-other-boot and I got curious. So I rebooted.
7th boot.
No 3G after boot. Waited 5 minutes. Still no 3G. Made a short phone call (thinking maybe this would trigger something?) Waited. Still no 3G. Rebooted again.
8th boot.
3G works great!
I clearly see a trend here of every other boot, 3G doesn't work.
Is this confirmed across the board, or only on some phones?
Anyone find a common trend between affected phones?
It doesn't happen to be something unique to a location, does it? I'm in the Phoenix metro area. (Tempe)
P.S. Hearing "droid" 8 times got rather annoying. +1 vote for making it a silent boot process again.
