froyo aug 6th? (link to article)

Don't put out info unless its factual, or closer to being revealed to keep accuracy & credibility of said leaks.

When people spread rumors so early on, it does nothing but let that person/website temporarily get more web page hits and Stardom(so to speak). Just to let its members down and cause arguments, with no real tangible benefit to its members.

Its pathetic what websites & forums do these days to get better sponsorship fee's(among other bennies).

I dont think misquoting the bible is sacrilege. He didnt go all "mel gibson" on us and start screaming out anti-semetic remarks. He simply had some fun with the bible as we are the believers, and the posters with these sources are the prophets.

I think some users truly do have inside information that canhelp us on our journey, but others just have 40 dollars to spend on a website/web hosting and post whatever they want and some people take it as fact. Sure we have great tipsters on this board,but that article clearly said "It's a great time to buy our phones for cheap", so that was clearly a marketing plot to get users to buy right away. If some of you can't see that, then i'm sorry.

What i mean by the "rumors", is not that we dont need rumors, I simply meant we dont need 500 posts over the next 2 weeks discussing froyo when even verizon has no idea when the updates will be out. I think its a waste of forum space, but thats just my opinion, others might want to chat about it as much as they can due to excitement.

And by the way, it is an open forum, so there will be happy people for these threads, and there will be people like might, who have been through the ringer since nextel bubble phones, on howard forums, waiting for updates to come, and they never came.

On the storm, and storm2, a leaked OS was like seeing a mountain topple or a volcano erupt, it would cause chaos and thousands of people would be formatting their phones and not know how to get them back without posting 100 more times for help. I think if they had just waited, just like we should just wait, we'll all be much happier. A lot of misinformation makes people excited, for example,the new release will help the battery issue, it wont, and it's never been stated as fact. Just a few people said it will most likely be in the next release but how would they know? Again, strictly opinion, and im sorry for the long thread. I love this forum and i Love you guys . update or no update :) :D

Correct, but yet people keep taking the bait. When ever I see "confirmed" or a set date, I doubt. Burn Notice was a poster example of hollow news supported by emphatic statements.

Hopefully, another thread will not shroom into multi-thousands due to these people with "inside" information. The only thing inside about it is their minds that created or manifested a rumor.

Perhaps the Androidspin source and Burn Notice can be in a new Brother's Grimm movie ;)

And I think your religious intolerance is offense both to my personal beliefs AND the constitution of these great United States of America and you should be banned.

U gotz problemz with du' N900?? Sure, Nokia sux for updates, Maemo 5 is awful for all but tech geeks and the "market" is mainly homebrew apps, of which a lot of them can screw your OS memory up, but the hardware is nice ;)

I have one and IMO, it really sucks as a smartphone and has terrible 2G reception, but sounds better than most media players for music :)

Pretty dang expensive media player though...... At least it plays full MAME :)

Yay! Another rumor! I wonder what would happen to VZW's network, or even customer service rating, if they tried to push out the patch to 3 devices at once and had problems?

I'm excited Froyo is coming at all, just wish it would get here sooner rather than later. These rumors just lead up to disappointment when they don't pan out. Then I cry.
 
You guys realize that article is getting paid by wirefly.com to refer business?

Look at the end of the story:

And check out the URL on that link..../?r=androidspin is a query string used to track which website the traffic came from so they can pay them a commission.

Sounds to me like a totally made up article made to stir up buzz and get a few clicks.
 
I think August 6th is wishful thinking. The last I heard from VZW was "late summer"

That being said, I am now all set to have my hopes and dreams crushed once again at 11:59PM on Aug 6th.
 
you know, i love the rumors, it keeps things fun and interesting.
otherwise, i honestly have a hard time believing the article for 2 reasons:

1. I HIGHLY doubt VZW would roll out to 3 different devices at the same time. Imagine if you were deploying a MAJOR update like this. would you rather have damage control on one device or three? Imagine this bricks phones(like the evo update) and you now have 3 sets of angry customers. BAD IDEA

2. The article says "He said that HTC and Motorola will be release Android 2.2 simultaneously". What does HTC and Moto have ANYTHING to do with VZW's pushes. Its not the phone manf that decideds when to push updates, its VWZ.

I HOPE its true, but i am not holding my breath.

I am totally with Taris. I work in IT and the last thing I would ever do is make that many changes at once. Plus the Aug. 6th date is a Friday. Why on gods Earth would you release something like this on a Friday?

If you want sacrilege, watch South Park. I thought the post was amusing and I'm Catholic.

Whether or not the OTA comes out soon doesn't even matter to me. It's the banter on here that I find amusing.
 
Jeez, this thread just confirms my belief that marijuana should be legal. Chill the f out!

Maybe their should be guidelines to posting rumors or have common sense strongly urged when posting a rumor or an article of a rumor. Michael was well aware of what he was doing and seemed prepared to be flamed, as he should've been considering how bold his statements were.

Being offended by someone misquoting the bible offends me and asking for a bann hammer is as serious as confirming a rumor as an " insider".

Not to beat a dead horse, but what you all are failing to understand is that Weston, in BIG BOLD TYPE, said that FROYO was going to be released on July 16th, not a simple, small OTA update. He (or mods) has since dramatically edited his originally post.

This wasn't a matter of someone calling for "an update" or "solid" intel about an OTA update having a delay. It was a matter of an unsubstantiated rumor (FROYO being released on July 16th) turning out to be completely false.

The fact that an OTA update (not Froyo) was leaked on that day has nothing to do with his original claim that FROYO would be released on July 16th. Either his source was completely and unequivocally wrong about what kind of update was in the works or Weston misinterpreted what his source told him.

That said, I completely agree people shouldn't pile on Weston for his source giving him false, inaccurate information. But at the same time, I don't see any purpose in continuing to defend his post.

There is a reason people are skeptical about threads about rumors about specific dates when Froyo will be released and that rumor of Froyo being released on July 16th is one of them.

Another thing to keep in mind, when rumors are posted here, they are often used as source material for other sites. When the information posted is wrong, that IMO makes this forum look bad.

We have to ask ourselves:

1) Do we want to be known as a forum that posts solid, factual information because our members have reliable sources with inside information?

2) Or do we want to be known as a forum that posts unsubstantiated rumors that more often than not turn out to be false?
