Root Froyo Development

The keyboard backlight works for me. I would wipe data, clear cache and dalvik cache, flash AOSP21, reboot. Then go back into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache and then flash gapps. See if that works. There is an app on the market, can't recall the name at the moment, that blocks ads quite well.

This is not good advice.

When installing a rom you ALWAYS wipe data, unless told otherwise.

1. wipe data/cache/dalvik
2. flash aosp21
3. flash gapps
4. reboot

As with flashing any rom you need to wipe /data and /cache first.

I'll assume you didn't. No wiping before or after gapps though.

Withn phone off boot with send + menu + power (all on outer face of phone) and let keys go at lg splash and wipe in recovery.

GRZLA, what I meant was full wipe before flashing AOSP. The method I laid out has worked for me so far on all the AOSP builds, Velocity builds, kernels etc but correct me if I'm doing it wrong.

I just noticed I don't have keyboard back light with aosd21. Did I do something wrong with the install? I am not familiar with the logcat, so if you want one you'll have to ppint me in the right direction.

Does our browser have the google dns? It seems alittle slower than the velocity browser.
Also is there any possibility of getting some of tridents script like ad block?

When I installed aosp21 I wiped the caches then flashed then flashed gapps and restarted. I did not wide data. All of the apps were there and the theme by GRZLA was now. I am fairly sure I have the new build but i didn't pay enough attention to the "About" section to know what should be there now. I did verify the GPS so I'm pretty sure that it took.

Check out the adfree android app on the market. Does the same thing as the ad block script.

Okay, so i did this and the back light started working again. Turns out (and I verified by doing it again), after you install the Gingerbread for Froyo update you created it kills the back-light for some reason. The last the thing I did was install that update and afterward the back light is off again.

I think I actually found something helpful.;)

When partitioning the sdcard for Froyo 2.2, is there any need to create the swap, or should it still be 0 like 2.1?

neitzenmt, this does not support swap AFAIK so do not partition the sd at all, even if you had apps2sd it will work correctly.

I am really enjoying these FroYo builds Drel... its unbelievable and amazing how far you have come with this project...ESPECIALLY since not too long ago (in this thread no less) you just about gave in. (I don't want to say "quit")
Could you do me a favor though..plz? Just send me a PM letting me know if u got my, "donation"...when you get a chance.
I figured i would put up or shut up..lol...I sent you $20. I hope thats a fair amount for your services (and your support....Always helpful when I and others need help) I will probably give more as this FroYo ROM progresses and gets even better..keep up the great work man.

2.2 has apps2sd in it. It is not the apps2sd script that was used in 2.1 roms, download the apps2sd app from the market to manually move your movable apps to sd.

A minor question at the moment. Is there any way to remove the animation when opening and closing the app drawer? Like I said, really minor right now, the animation just seems choppy and slow.

**First off..should we start a NEW thread to discuss just about everything thats NOT directly importaint to Dres? I figure then there would be a lot less filler for him to him to read through.
Now...with ver.15 and now 21(correct..lol?) I have noticed that my signal is really lacking..low...as in constant 1 bar and the highest of 3 bars. I thought it might just be the display being inaccurate...but my calls are choppy..break up. IIRC my signal was -107. He a whole row of numbers. Its nor usual for my Phone. (just to add....i installed that new radio that had been posted..the "C" ver. But, this was AFTER 15 and BEFORE 21 )
Next up, for most of the things i play with on my phone its quick...but, typing anything out,,,,, lags far behind, the other problem i have been having with the keyboard is, with STOCK ANDROID keyboard...it does not display word sug. Or spell correction. Then other things slow t a lag to even a momentary freeze..ex. apps. I have not recieved any force closes though.
Nothing horrible...im concerned for the most part...i dont know why id have such bad reception with such a sweet ROM.
THANKS IN ADVANCE GUYS n GALS : )

I have had the same issues as seen03 even with the latest aosp21. Very laggy to switch screens, overall performance seems to degrade over time. Maybe I have too many apps installed lol. Anyway, I'm going to wait for the actual beta to be released before I try it again. I'm committed to beta test Raptor, so that's what I'm going to run for a while.

Great work so far drellisdee! Keep up the awesome work. I also donated btw. I'll be following the thread here closely to see how things go. Thanks!

my P500 is just 3 days old, i was fiddling with the taskiller app and managing my apps in the settings tab yesterday. i was able to connect to a wifi connection but for some reason my mail,browser,facebook--anything to do with an intrnet connection failed, it said something about an error in the LG software crap.
i dnt know if i accidentally forced stop an LG app or a FROYO something. im a newbie so im lost at this...
should i go to a LG service center or does anyone here have a quicker and simpler solution??????!!!!

Gregster - wrong forum to post in, this is for the LG Ally. However, force-closing something wouldn't break your phone. Have you powered it off and back on? Are you able to make and receive calls? The internet connection would be via your 3G connection or wireless if you have that. Are you getting the 3G icon to come up?

I got it and thanks that was my biggest donation yet as most are in the $3 - $5 range.

Does not remove the animation from the app drawer. Wouldn't have asked if it were that simple.

Do you use the stock launcher or do you use LauncherPro or ADW? If you're using LP or ADW, you can change the speed at which the app drawer opens and closer to instant (i.e. - no animation).

Yea I'm aware of that, I was trying to see if there was a way to remove it as I really like the stock 2.2 launcher. We'll see I guess.

I decided to give aosp21 a try today.
Here is waht I noticed:
1) If you turn off Data Roaming you lose all data and the phone said it is roaming (I know it is not roaming)(I live close to Canada so this is important as I do not want to run Data off a canada tower)

2) Sometimes the phone is very slow at switching screens. Other times it is very fast.

3) Alt + B does not add the ".com"

3) Quadrant score of 1066 overclocked to 729

4) Headphone jack is working correctly.

I will test GPS later today.

Man....things have slowed down bit now.
Anyways...Drel. do you have any insght on why the radio signal is very low with this beta ROM? As in...i have1 to 2 bars max. My signal reading stays pegged at -107dB.
Next, is it just being a "beta phase" ROM...that tthe OS is choppy and lags now n then?
Please don't get me wrong...I'm DEF. Not nit picking...I am aware that it IS still in beta...just want to bring these issues to light...from an average users prospective. Thanks as always!

Just tried out the newest release, only issue I'm noticing is my usual WiFi connection is stuck at Obtaining IP. I double checked the security password just in case. Still won't finish connecting. And also the low signal which everyone else is mentioning but I'm still getting texts so it's fine for now.

GPS did not work, Google Maps just kept saying Searching for GPS, I also did not see the GPS icon in the top bar.
Phone has been very slow, about a 45 sec pause just to open an Exchange Email account
Very week signal strength

This ROM is great if this can be fixed. If you need any Log Files I can try to get them, but I need directions on how to collect the logs.

I went back to Velocity .3 for now but I will re-flash this if you need me to test anything.

if you care drellisdee i made a irc channel for AOSP build, will keep the main ally channel less flooded and provide a better environment for asking and answering questions. I will create a bot later to help log questions so we can answer them.
