Froyo EC05 (DI18 users - Install instructions post 39)!

Hello! I've had the OTA update nagging me the past 2 days but didn't want to brick my phone during this critical business trip. I finally decided to take the plunge from EB13 to EC05, which in theory won't benefit me any (not going to use Sprint ID). So far, I don't see any difference, except one....

Can someone do me a favor and go into Market, under "My Apps"? In mine, only Google Maps, Youtube, and 3 apps I have purchased show up as installed, and then "Recipe Search" shows up as FREE but not installed. This is way out of synch with my actual apps.

AppBrain sees my list properly. So does Apps2SD, all the shortcuts in the app drawer are there, and they all show up in Manage Applications under Settings.

Can anyone else verify so I know I'm not the only one?

UPDATE: First tried clearing the cache for the Market App - didn't help. Then tried clearing data for the Market App. Worked! Had to re-accept the license, but then my apps were synch'ed again.

The updating apps trick appears to be working. I was wondering why I hadn't gotten the update yet. I was reading this thread this morning and started updating some of my apps and sure enough I just got the pop-up to update.

I've tried the OTA update and the manual update (sdcard/update.zip/) several times, and it won't install for some reason. Even after I uninstalled my root and all the root-related apps (I factory reset the phone twice after I undid the root) I still get this:

--Install from package...
Finging update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update packinage...

Does anyone know why this might be or what I can do to fix it?

That's why...you're missing the Asphalt 5 Demo that came with the phone. When you root, you lose this app, and when Sprint updates a phone, they search for all their bloatware to ensure it's still there. If it's not, the update fails. You can put the Sprint Apps back on there if you search over at XDA for the SprintApps.zip. Flash it, and you'll be good to go.

If you no longer have root, I think you can adb push the files back to system/app and that will work too.

Thanks so much! I'm going to try this now, but I'm curious, though, do I have to unroot for this to work?

I click the direct download link, and another page opens up with a bunch of characters that keep loading on page. No file is saving

I don't believe so, no. However, my suggestion would be to Odin back to something stock, then update, then re-root and go from there. It might be a bit more of a pain, but I'm sure it will be a cleaner install too. Will probably have less problems.

With phones, I'm more of a "rather safe than sorry" kind of guy. Put the time in up front so there's less to do on the backend.

I would, but in all honesty I don't even know what Odin is.

Heh, fair enough. It's a tool used to basically un-screw your phone. If you ever get to a point where you cannot boot anything, you don't have a choice.

Odin is a tool where you load official releases from Sprint and put them on your phone. It will literally put your phone to like it was the day you took it out of the box. 100% stock. You need a few different files, and a Windows-based machine. Since Odin is an executeable file, it no worky on Macs to my knowledge. Many people have had problems with it, so most don't like using it, as sometimes it takes a few times to get things through properly.

If you go to the "All Things Root" section here, look for a stickied thread called "Wip" which is "Work In Progress". It's like the ultimate how-to guide for all things Epic related. Kelmar is working on it, but it's pretty darn solid last I saw. Tons of valuable information in there, all with links I believe.

I have EB13 OTW from DI18. For the last week now, every other day I get a bad OTA for EC05. It tells my I need to update to 2.2, which I already have, and the update include SprintID and other minor system updates. So I plug the phone in and choose restart and install. Next screen is android with a yellow triangle displaying an exclamation. Then it freezes and I have to reboot from recovery or remove the battery.

WTF where is the OTW for this update. Sprint is definitely a US company. You can count on them to drop the ball every step of the way when it comes to customer service. Too bad I can't afford a better carrier.

ok so I am on eb13 and rooted with froyo from the first time it was out. I keep getting the update ota and when I go to update it does nothing but show me the droid guy and the triangle with a exclamation point and I have to pull the battery then reset the phone. Do I have to odin back to di18 and then update? and when I do that and update, will I still be rooted? Actually I dont even want to update but I cant get rid of the update message.

If you Odin back and update to EC05 you will no longer be rooted but CAN reroot your phone using the methods listed in the Root Subforum.

You can always keep declining the update ;)

Hopefully some one can help me with this. I got my Epic 3 days ago. On my way home I got the push for the EC05(I think i was driving). So I let it run and it aborted.

Next day I called Sprint and they told me they were having problems with it over the air and if I go back the store they can do it there. Well i got to the store and they said that i can only get it over the air. Well the phone says its up to date so did a factory rest and tried it again. It found the updates, ran it again and still errrored out.

Then i found this thread and people are saying it works do i down loaded the zip file from here followed the instuctions and same results. this is the error i get:

Any help would be great.
