Froyo for galxy 5?

I think that there is almost no difference in android 2.1 and 2.2!?
The only thing I have extra now with froyo is app2sd.
Multitouch and flash dont work?!

Is there android gingerbread 2.3 for galaxy 5/europe?

ok i am confused now.. i did this twice already today.. i got 2.2 running both times.. but Swype doesn't seem to work.. i have also tried getting the sywpe beta installer which says i need to disable swype but i don't have an option to disable it.. i downgraded back to the 2.1 and it seems to work.. so does that mean i wouldn't get swype if i upgraded?? i have a i5500 (bought in UK) ..

If you google Swype and Froyo/2.2 issues there are hundreds of threads for all phones. So guess it must be an incompatibility. A few replies I saw said they got it working by uninstalling and reinstalling, which it looks like you've tried. Have you tried long pressing to get the input method and make sure Swype is not the input method and then reinstalling (clutching at straws here :) )

when is froyo comming to galaxy 5? i have read that it was supposed to already be here yet i see no trace of update:mad:.
Does anyone have any info on this cause froyo will fix a lot of stuff with galaxy 5 and it will give us multi-touch:D:D and ap instalation to sd card.

Hi
you may install froyo 2.2 by reading a tutorial at ankurtechblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/how-to-install-android-22-froyo-samsung.html

to install gingerbread theme, visit mylabofthoughts.blogspot.com/2011/02/android-23-gingerbread-upgrade-for.html

hope that helps everyone with a galaxy 5 like me

I have just upgraded the firmware of my phone.
First I had the USA froyo now the European FROYO, works perfect!

Any word on official Froyo update?
Last i heard was March, any one know more?
TIA

It should had been in december. But that never came true.
There weren't enough people to test the Froyo version.
But on samfirmware.com you could download and upgrade it unofficially.
I think they are all good.
I've had the USA version released in december works perfect.
Since yesterday I've the European Froyo version.
(:

Hey, where did you find the European version? Will this version be rolled out to all EU countries or is it country specific?

Also bhavkam in a post above put a very helpful tutorial in his post, will this be the European version? Id prefer to have the European version but havent a clue how to upgrade to it!!

Just checked Kies, no update.
Just outa curiosity, what message you guys getting from kies?
Im getting " this device cant be updated " which dont sound right to me.

I got tired of waiting so on Friday night i upgraded it with the Europe version available on samfirmware, works great and huge difference in battery performance and speed already

Is it working ok? i heard you cant download certain apps when upgrading yourself.

It seems like Samsung is going to release FroYo for the G5 soon. They've pulled down all available upgrades from older to a more recent build of

Mahmoud, (sorry, couldn't resist... ;))

Thanks for the information, and I'm also fairly sure that we're going to receive a Froyo update at some time (considering that the Samsung Open Source Release Center already released Froyo sources in the "I5500XXJPG_Froyo_OpenSource.zip" archive).

There is a problem with your research, though. According to reports, around late February, Samsung disabled their web-facing FUS server. This means that end-users can no longer query for or download firmwares, and KIES 1.5 (using the registry hack method or otherwise) no longer works. Kies 2.0 is now the only way to get access to firmware updates, but nobody has yet found a way to intercept communication between Samsung's servers and the Kies client.

Anyway, TomBot (the poster who told us that Froyo is available on Kies) appears to be a resident of the United Kingdom, according to their Youtube account. If there are any UK members reading, I would suggest that you check for updates on Kies 2.0 (the latest version - older versions no longer work!). I'm from Ireland (phone is branded O2), and I'm getting the message that my phone can't be upgraded - but I assume that's because I already flashed to I5500XWJP9 using Odin.

I wonder.... will the "official" European version be I5500XWJPB? Check out the few results: http://www.google.com/search?q=I5500xwjpb

Thank you for the helpful information and links, subpsyke :)

It seems like the registry hack update did not work anymore, which is sad news as my phone is for the eastern european market and will hopefully get updated as later as possible. I hope to see any workaround for this issue or a leaked official UK ROM soon.

Well, well. Just got a way at least to restore my I5500 back to its original firmware. Just to mention that previously I've tested lots of firmware versions before upgrading to the leaked January build of FroYo for the I5500.

As seen on XDA, there is a new version 1.8.0.0 of the registry tweak working with KIES 2. In fact it is difficult to tell that it is working. Maybe it is just okay for a reserch concerning current available versions of the firmware for the different regional versions of it. The funniest thing is, you are getting the
