Froyo for galxy 5?

Samsung Romania anonced that the Froyo update will be awaileble to user next week 14 -20 of March. So pacience is a wirtue

Ahmadinejad,

Many thanks for the info! Where did you get the list of device codes? I don't see it anywhere else on the net.

Aside from the news with Romania, I'm seeing people on a German forum report that they're receiving the Froyo update. See the recent threads:
Samsung Galaxy 5 (I5500) Forum auf Android-Hilfe.de

I've tried spoofing using the DBT product code that you provided, but it doesn't offer Froyo. However, I think that they are other German versions of this phone, of which the codes you haven't provided. You can see the potential codes from the Kies 2.0 Register Patcher that you link to.

subpsyke,

Here is my source of these product codes : Samsung Mobile Firmware Queries & Downloads - Windows Phone @ MoDaCo. Aside from the fact that the guy posting there wants to make some easy money selling something which is not his property, this excel file is a very precious source of product codes and software version :P

As seen from your other posting in this thread, German and Swedish users got some earlier versions of FroYo. However as I checked with these product codes it looks like there was not FroYo for the I5500 last night. Maybe Samsung made some tests and posted these versions by accident and users got the luck to test them. I see not reason why one regional ROM should get the update earlier than another. I think that if there is any version that would logically get the FroYo earlier should be the unbranded XE* - XEU, XEF etc.

Well, at this moment I think to make the update a few weeks after FroYo becomes available as there are some things I actually don't like in this leaked ROM : the GPS is sooo slooow & there are missing languages (no matter that I am in fact using only French translation). On the other side there are some pros like better battery usage and Task Manager. I hope to see all the cons fixed before going FroYo. At least that is the idea of the update - to have better experience using the device ;)

Thanks for the information. By the way, you may want to investigate Motafoca's modded ROM (current version is 2.0.9, but that's internal numbering and is based on Samsung's Froyo source release).

Galaxy 5 2.0.9 Final Released - MAD Team

I'm running this build at the moment and it's very fast; it uses the European baseband and has 25 languages (including French of France and Suisse). Of course, when a newer official Froyo build becomes available, I'll be switching to that...

Thanks for the link, subpsyke,
the last Motafoca ROM that I tested was 2.0.8b Standard theme. I find this project very interested and feel happy to see that this phone gets more and more support from the community each day. The 2.0.8b version that I tried was based on L version of the phone (for the American continents) and did not had French, but as seen by your posting the team compilled its new release using the European source code tarball.

Is it working ok? i heard you cant download certain apps when upgrading yourself.

I havent had any problems downloading apps from the official app market, i have noticed better speed and battery life, also prior to the upgrade my memory card would reject itself at least 30-40 times a day!! I havent had it once since i upgraded.

Works great so far, no problems what so ever mate. Im not sure if i should root this phone, i am not sure there is any benefit to it?

Hi,
Do you know who I should email my unsatisfaction for not getting updated to Froyo? Samsung or the phone carrier?

I have a Canadian Samsung Galaxy 5 through PC Mobile (Bell)

MOdel: GT-I5500M
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Basebans: I5500MUGKE3
Kernel: 2.6.29-perf
se.infra@sep-40 #1
Build: ECLAIR.UGKE3

Phone goes into "phone coma" (see threads here:)

I've heard there is hope in Froyo with this issue. Anyone know for sure? I can't seem to find a ROM to update it for Canada and was told I should not take a chance doing so unofficially. Bell refuses to install Froyo stating the phone does not support it.

Does anyone have ANY help on this issue? I need a reliable smart phone. iPhone is looking nicer and nicer the more problems I get but I do not want anything fancy expensive or large. ARGHH!
