Android version 2.2whats froyo?
This does not mean we will get it in September. It means the Galaxy will.
Then they have to tweak it for the AT&T Captivate, then send it to AT&T.
Then AT&T has to cripple and bloat it, drag their feet for a month or two, weasle some more money from subscribers, etc, before sending it out to customers probably December or later.
ah! will this be an over the air update? I'm waiting for this before I try to route
I'm hoping for that gps update... so I can route and not have an issue?
well it says for all for all carriers so hopefully we will be in that boat.
To me, people need to stop asking about froyo. It's coming, it's announced and confirmed, that's great.
The question people need to be asking Samsung, so we can get them on the record committed to it now, is will you release a Gingerbread update for the phone as long as the hardware is capable of supporting it. The OS is only 2-3 months from being unveiled if Google sticks to their time table, and if the rumors are true it'll be a much bigger overhaul than 2.1-2.2 is.
So yeah, unless we want our phones to be outdated before the end of the year, we need to start making a push as a community to get a commitment from Samsung to support not just the OS that was released 4 months ago, but also the much bigger one that's right around the corner.
Wasn't Froyo first released to the Nexus One... a month ago? Where do you get four months?
They've released the source code, simmer down there. Heh.To me, people need to stop asking about froyo. It's coming, it's announced and confirmed, that's great.

Think it was closer to 2 months ago for the N1, and yes, that's about when it hit phones, but Google unveiled the OS and released the code earlier than that.

You do have a bit of a point about the Gingerbread release, though, especially since Gingerbread will be released probably about the same time that Froyo makes it to our Captivates...
But hey, that's what custom ROMs're for, right?![]()
Having source code available means that chefs can cook ROMs to their hearts' content, which means that as soon as Gingerbread's available, someone'll prolly cook up a custom ROM based on it. Very much looking forward to seeing what the end of the year brings.

whats gingerbread?
whats gingerbread?

It's a kind of bread made from ginger, sometimes has raisons in it, tastes really good. Your current captivate is made out of frozen yogurt, but the next galaxy s phones they want to make it out of gingerbread. Yummy
Froyo or frozen yogurt is your current Android 2.1 eclair. After 2.2, the next version of Android, Android 3.0, is called gingerbread. Google uses desert names.![]()
