Froyo on Droid: NO WIFI TETHERING?!?!

Guys, before you get upset, be real. Why would Verizon or any other carrier allow something that they charge $59.99/month for to be free on all of their devices? What carrier does that on all or even more than 2 of their devices? Imagine the network strain and loss of money for the carrier. It's possible that they will allow it, but don't be surprised if they don't.

Briankeith513, both of your posts make absolute sense.

And think about it, the hotspot app was orignally $60 per month, but with dismal sales of Pre and pixe plus I think it was a way of drawing more customers to phone (It almost worked on me, until the inc came out) and the Incredible does not need that type of thing to draw people in. But like briankeith513 said "It's possible that they will allow it, but don't be surprised if they don't."

And I'm sure the six Palm Pre + users are very happy with it.
7... and not really. I got the phone specifically for that service, but the phone leaves a lot to be desired. I got the phone for my wife who is happy with it, but I cannot use it. Too sloo....oo. slo..oslowsgjhdisohn!

i think i might be missing something....all three of my windows phones were able to be used as a modem (either BT or USB), all the phones were on alltel or verizion. if i decided to get a touch pro 2 or another WM phone i would be able to use it as a modem on the same plan i am on now, why would VW choose to charge extra for some phones over others?

Don't know who here has seen this as its for the Motorola Droid....but if things stay this way...... looks like Big Red is going to take away that function.

Thing with this is...there is no thethering for the Motorola droid, Devour, or HTC Eris thru VZW. The issue with moto is that there are no official drivers yet. Eris, idk.

The Incredible is the only droid that can tether. It is listed on the www.vzam.net page, and it def works via usb. I havent checked if the device bluetooth is enabled for DUN, but if it is, you can use vzaccess with BT. This brings your total monthly bill for data, phone and tethering to $59.99.

As far as wifi hotspot, with the MiFi and the palm devices, I wouldnt be surprised if they allow it on the incredible. As long as the interface on the device is secure to not impede the network, I think it would be included. Would certainly bring value to the phone.

To be quite honest, in tech support you really had to look until reciently that the inc had tethering capabilities. I saw it listed before launch, and inquired about it. They kinda snuck it in on us. Havent heard any issues with it though. Just works like any other smartphone thethering.

and I dont care what you say. compared to a couple of years ago, we just had a few smartphones, and they were BORING. I think theyve loosened the leash quite abit and they have a really kickin lineup. The droid phones are probably the first time Ive been excited about a phone since the treo. I think they are giving people alot of options. (ok, plug over on that paragraph)

Trust me, there has got to be a reason the moto droids dont tether. VZW takes the ARPU seriously. Honestly, I think there are any approved drivers to tether from motorolla. HTc has all the drivers with htc sync. you can tether with htc sync.

Im gonna check out the bt tethering options with the inc this week. Just dont jump the gun and apply any announcments about the Moto Droid to the incredible.

Theres a new Droid in town. And its one Incredble peice of work.

btw. I dont think that saying only 6 people purchased the new palm devices was very nice or accurate. Very rude. Im sure that number is at least 12...13.

i agree. the hotspot is THE only redeeming factor about that device. I also agree too that the fastest data transfer is allways going to be thru usb when tethering. I tried tethering my laptop thru Bluetooth with my Tour, it works ok, but if the page has lots of graphics on it, you notice.
Also it can be a pain as it doesnt always hang up properly. Bluetooth is good for somethings, but not for everything.

USB for ME.

Well, that droid-life post is rather disappointing (I hadn't seen that till today). Hopefully that's an early build as others have suggested.

As to the wifi hotspot feature, I would think big red has something up their sleeve for that. Perhaps an app that activates the feature once they figure out how much they can get away with charging.

... and lol for the running pre+ humor

nothing except for WebOS

Yeah that part was okay i guess..everything else just seems too small for me.. the keyboard, the screen and the actual phone it self. Maybe if web os was on a bigger device we'd have a winner. But back to the topic, of course VZW wasn't going to include it come on guys its Verizon..lol
