Froyo pushed back

And the sad thing is...Froyo is based around the Snapdragon...not Hummingbird CPUs....so we won't see as much gains as most other androids.... less they really worked on a different Froyo for Hummingbird...which I doubt.

Please remember, Samsung USA has said (and stuck to) Froyo by the end of 2010..thats official regardless of what Samsung UK (a different division) may say.

A tweet from Samsung US today reaffirms that: "RT @SamsungMobileUS Re: Froyo release in November statement came from SamsungUK. Froyo for US SGS will be avail this year"

yeah if they knew what was wrong with the gps it wouldve been fixed by now..i doubt it will be fixed in froyo. im actuallly not lookin forward to froyo hearing all these horror stories after froyo updates on htc incredible and droid x. Anyone tryin out the win7 phones like the htc surround??

I honestly believe that by the time we get froyo, everyone else will be on Gingerbread .

I doubt any of these current "hot" phones (Galaxy s, Droid X, Evo etc) will get gingerbread.

Could be wrong though.

I dont care much about the GPS it seems to be working a lot better since JH7, I just want flash mostly.

2.2 is not going to make this phone a god. when its ready, it'll get released. Until then, just sit patiently. its not going to make a HUGE difference anyway. relax.

If you follow XDA, you will learn that Froyo is more stable OS than Ecliar, it will help in stabling ur battery drain and u dont need shitty Task killers. Also dont forget Flash player. who doensnt want to watch Movies and Tv shows on phone..I do. :D

I read somewhere, they are delaying the update to froyo to give more edge to their Galaxy S tab. Once the Tab is out, we will get our update as well.

Now recent news says Froyo will be out for Galaxy S phones in Novemeber in UK only. Thats a good start so we might get it by December. Its sucks but come on we can wait more.

Froyo will let you run the utils that track which apps are using how much data. This is worth its weight in gold all by itself.

The Cognition ROM with the beta Froyo is pretty good. I've been running it for a couple of weeks now and its been pretty stable. Flash does work. Froyo does have some fixes in its wireless stack which were a major deal for me. Hands free dialing with the handset button doesn't work though. The phone doesn't seem that faster to me and I've never really had an issue with battery life or lag.

I don't know what the big deal about Froyo is or why people are getting that excited about it. The main features that were added were flash and wifi tethering and I haven't really used either. It did fix problems that prevented me from connecting to wifi at my work which was nice. But my phone isn't that much different than when I had eclair on it.

It just makes me wonder if they know what they are doing at all. What really makes me sad is the growing trend of companies releasing products before finishing them.
Far too many people love to bash Samsung. I'm not sticking up for them, but rather reporting fairly. I've had just two small issues and each time AT&T has put me through to Samsung and they've resolved the problems quickly and professionally.

I'm very picky about my phones, I must say I really am surprised at how many people are so negative and complain about this phone.

I have been very happy with mine.

I've done some optimizing of the OS, all of which I learned here on this forum, by doing some research with Google and in the end, today... running un-rooted Android ver 2.1 my phone is operating very well. Every bit as good as my Droid X. I prefer the Captivate over my Droids any day.

Cheers... :)

Because the microwave oven, McDonald's, MTV, I want everything right now society we have today... loves to complain.

I disagree jd. I think that the reason is that more and more companies are rushing products to shelf before they should be. This is ending up leaving the consumer to do the beta testing for the company. I like beta testing, but not paying for a finished product just to beta test.

Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, whatever.. I just want my gps to work right and to quit dropping calls (that is probably ATT on the dropped calls though).

Not to mention the "chrome to phone" app and extensions that allow you to push webpages and such to your phone from your Chrome or Firefox browser...

I still break out my Nexus to use that once in a while...

exactly

If they knew how to make the GPS work, it'd be working by now.

I think its a hardware issue. I bought my cappy close tolp two months ago and my gps works fine. I find that people with the early models are the ones that happen to have gps issues.

Regarding hopes of froyo fixing GPS..IMO it's definitely hardware based, so any fixes are just lipstick on a pig...just have to live with extra long fix times..but as long as it locks..it's very useable

We love to complain? I paid $200 for a phone with a broken GPS. I took their word and didn't take the phone back when they said they were going to fix it. They have yet to fix and probably never will fix the phone. I'm convinced it's a hardware and not a software problem. But I guess that makes me a spoiled brat because I should be OK with a half-broken phone? Please explain to me?

Does GPS issues make it half broken? I think not. But if it bothers you that much, why aggravate about it? Just move on to another device.
