Froyo release day - Nov 11th

How long do you all think from the actual release date to the date "V" is ready to push to the first end user? Would a couple months be fair to assume? I see everyone getting excited about the release on Nov 11, but that has nothing to do with the "V" push to our handsets..... that is the real question! How long of a gap from Samsung release to carrier push?

theres really nothing to gauge verizons timeline by. id imagine they would need a month at least to start pushing it out, followed by an immediate stop of the ota when the find a major bug (like they always do).

but we really have no idea :confused:

I remember back when I had my X, someone with trusted knowledge of these kinds of things said in one of the forums that it usually takes about 4-6 weeks for testing and things. Whether or not that's true for each device, who knows. I'm sure it varies a little which is probably the reason he had said ~4-6 weeks. Only time will tell though.

Well the one Phil from Android Central had in his video a few weeks ago had 2.1 running, but I definitely thought Samsung and vzw would have released it with 2.2? Either way, I suspect we most likely wont see it until either Dec or even after the new year for the Fascinate. Their so focused on the Galaxy Tab right now that they probably just don't see it as a necessity right now! I hate all these companies...Worry about what the people have now, before worrying about what's next!

yeah one would think it would have released with 2.2 but who knows.

i dont see the galaxy tab as interfering with us getting 2.2 as verizon and the other carriers SHOULD be getting it from samsung, then its up to them.

vzw doesnt have much to do with the tab needing support, it ll have 2.2 outta the box and then they just gotta sell it.

Exactly...the tab has 2.2 out of the box! The tab is really just a big Galaxy with a front facing can, you would think it would be easy to get 2.2 to us? Truth be told, my Fascinate is just fine the way it is...when it comes it comes!

tbh i dont know exactly that 2.2 couldnt be ported to us, but if it was i think alot more devs on all the sgs phones would have tried or been talking about it. it might come down to screen drivers and radio firmware. :confused: but thats just a guess fwiw

I don't mind waiting for something that works right the first time out, rather than a release that is plagued with problem.

yeah but the sad thing is im sure it will have alot of issues just like all of their other updates that they make you wait weeks if not months after other phones get it and the leaked versions devs use usually have less bugs.
 
All this talk of froyo is making me anxious....and hungry :D

Even though I'm new to the smartphone game, I'm not really even considering getting the OTA from verizon now that I'm rooted and everything. I'm glad we have communities like xda, even if I feel bad that I can't really contribute all that much :o Once the root bug hits, there's no going back :)
 
It looks like froyo 2.2 is pushed out to the users in Europe as soon as Samsung releases it. So I guess Samsung has been testing it with wireless carriers before releasing it.
Not sure if that's the case with Verizon too. But if so, maybe we won't have to wait too long until Verizon pushes it out to users after Nov 11.

That is what makes me want the OTA so bad. I can't stop changing things when I start rooting. So I want to try it out to see if it "all that" then if not I can go the way of the root and keep installing a custom rom weekly until my 2 year contract is up and I get a new phone.
 
Samsung posted on twitter that their goal is to have every Galaxy S phone on 2.2 by the end of November. Not sure if Verizon can or will go along with that, but we can hope.

Vzw is probably thinking along the lines of the end of Nov 2011..lmao
 
I hope that we at least get some sort of reassurance during the Samsung Event, hopefully they say something like, in 3 days...haha

I understand not being able to stop changing things once rooted :). When I first got this phone a couple days after it was released I was originally going to wait for froyo and then root, but since there was no release date (and there still technically isn't) I just decided to root anyway. The simplicity of rooting was beckoning me :D
