Froyo RUU update available

Just one question, now I've debranded using RUU and a goldcard, if I restore factory settings in the phone, will that negate the need for a goldcard for future OTA updates?
Nope, you will always need a goldcard in the phone to run any OTA updates.

If you're concerned about the goldcard, you can use it for your everyday memory card. The goldcard image simply alters sector 0 to allow updates. It doesn't alter the card in any other way nor use any space on the card, so you can use it normally afterwards as your regular memory card. If you want to be safe, maybe make another goldcard using an older card and keep it safe incase you have problems. But you likely won't have any issues related to useing the goldcard.

This is what my phone currently is on 02:

Would this 02 RRU be the right upgrade file for me ? is this the same upgrade that 02 will be push out to users ?

thanks

Yes. Just like the unbranded RUU it will wipe your phone's settings though. I don't think it is available OTA yet.

edit: you won't get anything extra with the O2 release compared to the stock (and you'll lose future unbranded updates), but it will restore your warranty if you've debranded/rooted.

Cheers..

Would you recommend installing the stock 2.1 then 2.2, or just straight to 2.2 ?

Stock or 02 ?? Thanks :)

If you have an O2 phone you can choose either stock 2.2 (with a goldcard) or O2 branded 2.2 (without a goldcard). It doesn't matter what you are currently running.

Thanks.. Anything I should worry about doing this ?

Can I ask where this 02 upgrade came from ? is the official rom that they are planning to release shortly. ?

It's a leak of O2's official update. All RUUs are signed by HTC and won't install if they are modified.

You will lose all settings, but the ROM will include APN details for O2 phones.

All done, pretty painless and it definitely still has minor O2 branding, just finished putting all my apps back.

The good news: Wifi hotspot is still there!
The bad news: I still can't find flash player on the market, however some of the new gubbins like Chrome2Phone are there and work brilliantly!

Getting decent GPRS signal at home like normal, however I won't be able to test HSDPA til probably the weekend, but all in all, looking good.

Cheers..

Is flash player part of 2.2 or a market download ?

Would you recommend a complete reset or backup and restore ?
Cheers !

Flash player should be a market download, and it's listed on the Adobe site as out for the Desire, but it's not showing as a published app when searching through all of Adobe's apps.

I backed up my texts using "SMS backup and restore", generated an applist using "App List" so I can put back what I had manually, and I keep all my contacts sync'd to my GMail, so after that I just ran the RUU as per the instructions.

Before people go off to install branded froyo updates remember that there's no guarantee the network will release further updates, while HTC is almost certain to keep releasing unbranded updates for a while yet. And once you install a branded update you can't install this RUU any more (it's possible, just not the same way).

Flash is installed onto the system partition (not downloaded as an app). You can easily check it in the UK - just go to iPlayer and you'll find it now works.

Slightly different question, if I do install the o2 RUU, and it is not the final release (o2 and their 'testing') will I recieve the real OTA?

No, an OTA update patches your existing software, so only works from a specific version. This can be compared against the OTA version easily, they will have the same software version.

If you apply the O2 RUU, you cannot apply the stock froyo RUU without first downgrading back to Android 2.1.

Ok so I will stay on this o2 RUU version, until they ever update this software number, which should be the same number as the real OTA?

Just done this on my Orange branded phone and it's worked fine.

I had real trouble getting the Goldcard tool to run though. Windows 7. It would run and show up in the task manager, just wouldn't appear on screen. Tried various permutations of compatibility, but it just appeared when it wanted to.

Just reconfiguring my phone now - no more Orange bloatware. Thanks!
