Froyo RUU update available

Hmm... I also just found out that i cannot send smses but can call and receive calls... and also receive smses... guess this is something i need to ask my provider here... thing is when you manually go into APN there appears a blank screen...
and this might be the wrong thread for this... excuse my noobness... :-(

Who's your provider? Might be worth doing a hard reset (I always do when a new ROM comes about, keeps things tidy)

Hi folks. Been reading through these threads for a while now and I've reached the point where I've utterly confused myself and just wondered if someone could clarify a few things for me please?
blink.gif

First the essential info:

HTC Desire running 2.1 u 1 (Software no. 1.22.61.1)
Branded with Orange (...which I hate with a passion!).
SLCD screen (as far as I can tell).

HBoot 0.83
Radio 4.09.00.08

Hopefully that's enough - if not, let me know what else you need to know.

In a nutshell - I want my phone unbranded and running FroYo with the stock HTC Sense UI. I don't particularly want the new Orange OTA update as it will come with all the bloatware again.

What is the easiest way for me to achieve this and does it require me 'rooting' my phone? If so, what exactly does rooting do for me? It sounds to me like rooting may give additional functionality that I doubt I'd really use, so is it essential for the debranding process?

Really appreciate any help or advice. Thanks guys.

Hello

I successfully debranded my orange phone with no problems. :)
(upgraded to the RUU in the first post).

However I have a question I hope someone can help me with.

I created a gold card before updating which is in my phone.
I would like to take this out and keep it for my gold card spare for updates etc.

Tomorrow I get a 16GB card that I will use as my main card.

My question is now I have upgraded to 2.2 is too late to make this card a gold card too, or did I have to do that before I upgraded?

If i do the same Gold card process now I have 2.2 RUU installed will it still be a valid gold card for further updates or is that now too late.

Sorry if that seems a silly question but this is all new to me.

Thanks

PS. For those who are interested I pretty much followed the steps posted previously by manicguitarist in post 104 to successfully update:

i.e (from memory).
1) Formatted SD card to FAT32 (full format) on PC.
2) Got latest HTC Sync from HTC site. Installed.
http://www.htc.com/www/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=312&act=sd&cat=3

3) Used Gold Gard Helper from market to get CID and GoldCard image emailed.
4) Enabled USB debugging (settings -> applications - developmet)
5) Used Gold Card app http://android.modaco.com/content/software/308798/pc-application-goldcardtool/ to install image to SD card in disk mode (usb mass device). Just select 'Load image' to load the gold card image and then select patch..
6) switched to sync mode on phone.
7) Double clicked the RUU file to install - few mins later it was all done :)

I now have a question about rooting since I have done this update on my Desire with a Gold Card. Can I root with unrevoked without any problems and will rooting do away with the need for the Gold card??? Also will I still be able to flash future stock Ruu's from HTC on it, I really do not want to lose the HTC Sense Ui!!!

I have the unlocked Telus version of desire and I am having problem flashing to 2.2. I able to create my goldcard with a 2G Kingston card and I downloaded both the
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed
and
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed

But when I tried to run either file on my PC (tried on XP & Win7), I git error 5000 no matter with my phone plug in or not. And my phone is already on the bootloader mode with usb debugging turned on. So did I do something wrong? thx advance for helping me out!

You don't need both files. The second one has everything the first one has but with newer updates...might as well install just the second one.

Does the update file open and start ok where you can select to start flashing the ROM, and then throws the error?

Did you install HTC Sync software? Without it you won't have the drivers to install the RUU.

I used the same files and flashed no problem to Froyo on my Telus Desire, so it definitely works ok.

You can't root this latest firmware...you need to go back to v2.1 to root and then update with a custom ROM that has the Sense UI as part of the package.

You will always be able to run the official stock RUU files, but you will lose root if you do that.

Hi everyone, i hve a couple of questions about this...

1. I am on a Orange Branded htc desire on 2.1 update 1 and the software number is 1.15.61.10.

2. I need to know if this process will work for me considering orange have been saying for the past few days that the reason i can't get 2.2 is because htc need to update my phone to software number 1.25 something like that.

3. IS this process 100% correct, as in, the version of 2.2 is 100% complete right? This isn't any rom or anything, or not just a layer os on top...i hope that makes sense, im still a noob, but trying to learn.

4. Will this process work for me? Do i need to download any firmware before i do it?

5. If i am successful with this RUU process, can i update to future firmwares/android os without hassle? Bricking? or just plain bullcrap? lol

Thanks in advance guys.

Hi,

I desperatly need someones help!

I downoaded this file -
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U
_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe

I have created the Goldcard, but when i download the RUU rom and try to open it, it has said it is invalid!

THEN i downloaded it again and when i tried to install it, it then said - This file is not a valid WIN32 file...

I AM A NOOB! I seriously have no idea what to do from here, i already have the goldcard.

I am running an Orange branded htc desire, on software 1.15 and 2.1 update 1.

Also i am on windows vista Home premium with service pack 2

Also posted in the other thread, here's my answer:

I had a similar problem so I downloaded it again. Initially I used Firefox but the download erroneously completed, so then I tried it with IE and it was fine. Make sure the downloaded file is big (mine came out at about 166MB) as the download can time out without reporting an error. Basically try again and eventually it'll get there.

For anyone having trouble with the RUUs in general, just try the other method pointed to in the first post. It will be much easier as it doesn't have any drivers.

Hi

I have searched the thread and had a quick scan through it but couldn't find my answer. I have a 3uk branded Desire and have just found out that it might be another 2 weeks before we get Froyo and I am completed P'd off with them. Has anyone used this successfully to debrand and flash the latest RUU too their Desire, my patience with 3 has ran out but don't want to brick my phone.

Just wondering what happens with Network specific settings on the phone, ie APN

I have also noticed that under Network mode it says to use GSM/WCDMA, I noted that in this thread it says that using this update on CDMA phones can brick them, any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Steve

Yes unrevoked3 will root Froyo 2.2 that is why I asked about it!!

I just did not know about all of the Gold Card stuff since I cannot find that information at all and I have not been able to contact the people at Unrevoked!!!

Trying to do an RUU update on another Desire, the .exe didn't work giving me an error 171: usb connection, I ran it in admin mode and have goldcard and HTC Sync 3.0. Then I tried the OTA version and I get this, wtf is this??

Actually, the problem was both files were corrupted when downloading it. After I re-download it last night, I am able to flash to Froyo now! yay! Now I need to find out how to write chinese without install any 3rd party app.
