Help Froyo Update for Mac Users

drshame

Newbie
Since the Froyo update has officially been available, I've been tring get to get it done thru my Mac System...even using Parallels under Windows XP since I have a dual-core Pentium Mac Pro Tower.
I downloaded Kies, it ran fine and mounted the Phone. But it could never "see" the USB connection no matter what I did, so I could never update the OS.
I went to a neighborhood TMO, and they checked and said they had no official upgrade options for Mac Users. They called customer support and got the same message.
One of the reps finally got out his own laptop.....teathered the wifi connection to his Vibrant since he couldn't connect his laptop to the TMO wireless network in the store...and figured out how to cobble an upgrade on my phone with his own makeshift system.
The local rep did fine.
TMO and Samsung are ignoring an important part of their user population...and should be ashamed of themselves.

Froyo Up and Running Nicely, finally.

To the best of my knowledge, I installed everything I was supposed to and as I mentioned, KIes ran fine up to the point where it couldn't acknowledge the phone was connected via the USB cable. The mac saw it, because mounted on the Mac desktop fine.
I think there's a PC/USB port emulation problem that may prevent Parallels from allowing Kies to use the Max USB Connection.
Parallels under XP can use it fine.
If anyone has used a Mac to upgrade to Froyo, please let us know.
From my experience, it's difficult, if not impossible to update the Vibrant OS through an Official TMO source if they refuse to support the Mac Environment.
Gee, isn't there a native Apple Phone that integrates seemlessly with Mac Computers?

Maybe TMO/Samsung is conceding the Mac Market and doesn't really care about their Mac users who, for whatever reason, are using an Android TMO Platform.

drshame, I have the same problem and still do with updating my Vibrant with Froyo on my Mac. Whatever problem you described there with Parallels, is exactly the same on VMware Fusion, which I happen to have to run Win XP.

Mini Kies installed fine and when I connect my phone, the phone is able to sense the software but however that is where it all ends. I haven't had much luck updating it to Froyo since I am SOL with 2 laptops, one a MBPro and another a Thinkpad that runs linux.

Overall, I've been terribly disappointed with Samsung and Vibrant and I should have stuck with the Iphone. Unfortunately, that wisdom dawned upon me after numerous disappointments from Samsung and TMo. I cannot wait to ditch this POS for a Iphone when the next one comes out. Samsung left a bad taste in my mouth with my efforts to try Android.

I'll go back to being an Apple fanboy again. Atleast their sh*t works and if there are issues, Apple is on the case to please its customers at the earliest.

I learnt a valuable lesson not to buy phones made by half witted idiots at Samsung who are greedy to release new hardware every 3 months and leave you dangling SOL with software. I bet Samsung will release one more Galaxy S in two months and make the Vibrant 4G buyers total idiots. Nexus S has probably some saving grace, thanks to it being a Google branded product but as for the rest of the crap Samsung puts out, stay away.

I think your reply probably mirrors what every other Mac-Head may feel about the total lack of support for Mac Users and disegard for their own customers.
I am dumfounded how their lack of support for the Mac Platform will do nothing to welcome other platforms into their product "Family".....and do nothing to help them make inroads into the growing IPhone marketplace.
As much as everyone else may hate Apple...their PC integration of ITunes, Quicktime and OSX show what a technology leader they are.
I like my wife's Vibrant..it's a cool phone with an excellent display.
The local customer service rep went waay out of his way to update my phone on his laptop using his wireless teathering.
Somebody at TMO or Samsung needs to kick in the bitt to figure out a solution for their Mac customers or both don't deserve any new business.
It's beyond belief the TMO stores are not doing it and block their in-store networks so their staff can't even do it if they want to.
Anyone at TMO or Samsung Listening?
