Help full HD video recording

i just tried taking a quick video clip today for the first time, and thought of setting it to full HD 1080p. when i put it on this setting, my screen is automatically zoomed in a bit (my field of view is smaller) its like i have about 1.5x zoom on it. when i try to zoom out, it says zoom is not available on full HD video. when i switch back to 720p quality, the field of view is normal (looks like 0x zoom , same as picture camera) and i can zoom if i want to. does everyone have this problem recordiing full HD video? thanks

Its normal.

Basically 8mp is more pixels than needed for 1080p recording, and there are two ways to discard the redundant pixels, cropping or binning. If you crop then you end up with a zoomed field of view, which is the approach Samsung took here (Apple did the same with the iPhone). I think its easier to maintain decent frame rates with this approach, but pixel binning is the better approach in terms of having both a non-zoomed field of view, and also allowing for some digital zoom without loss of detail (the N8 uses this approach). There was a good article at GSMarena where they discussed it.

ah thanks for that. its a bit annoying coz when i take video i like to fit in as much as i can in a frame.. guess i'll be sticking to 720p, its not like im gonna notice a huge difference anyway :D but i find it strange that 8mp is fine fo 720 but too MANY pixels for a higher res video?

Its more pixels than needed for 720p as well, they are probably using binning for the 720p mode since its less demanding on the processors.

thx for info, i didn`t noticed that before but checked now and same story so i changed to 720p :)
