Why?

Holland is not third world or emerging market is it? Would have thought they're generally available on free or low-priced carrier subsidy in Holland? - like they are in the UK.

Yeh the iPhone 5C and 5S, both of which are available now in the UK, for free apparently on Vodafone, provided you take out a two year contract. Where I am they're available, China Unicom has them, but however they're not subsidised and have to pay full price.

Which is a complete difference from a couple of years ago, where Apple would delay their new products launches in China. I remember seeing armed riot squads outside of Apple Stores in Beijing, but not now, it doesn't happen here. That's why I saw your photo, and wondered what is going on.

Well, the Netherlands is a small market so they never make the first tranche of releases for Apple products so the new phone is only just arriving there ..

Plus I have a feeling the Market is a bit like Belgium where subsidised phones were illegal, at least until recently. A friend of mine in Belgium only just replaced her 6100

Don't know why people are getting so excited by the 5s: it's so similar to the 5 that my missus actually picked up her old 5 instead of her new 5s this morning and didn't realise until hours later when she tried to make a call - if the SIM had still been in the old one, I'm sure it still wouldn't have clicked
