Galaxy Nexus Battery Life

I will share my battery experience for today.

At about 5 and a half hours since turning on and activating, at 8%, ran a lot of video and streamed music. Did some web browsing, set up my desktop how I like it. I've been using this almost none stop.

edit: was running a live wallpaper as well.

Was that out the box? I had about 40% battery out the box, however not going to focus on battery life until I get the thing the way I want it. ALL PHONES suffer from new phone battery syndrome :)
 
I charged mine to full first, did some moderate-load activities and got less than 4 hours. Where is that super huge extended battery?!? I hope one comes out.
 
Here is my usage graph for the day, after fully charging it. This was on 4g the whole time, no wifi... playing with it & showing it off to people (YouTube, etc) way more than I expect to be doing in a week. I have no doubts of it lasting me through the day. :-)

pull down the notification bar.

settings icon is to the right of the date, tap it

tap battery

tap the grey graph at the top.


Just a note to give it a day or two for the android os to collect battery stats for more accurate reporting.
 
Did your day involve a battery swap? If not, I'd say you've got a good example of why people observe abysmal battery life on their first day out. I don't think it's as much the battery being "conditioned" as many claim, but the phone "learning" the battery discharge curve.

But I'm definitely speaking out of turn -- the only thing I know for sure is these aren't like NiCads where charge remaining could be equated to voltage (drop). I'm a little familiar with how to recharge a Li-Ion battery, but no idea how remaining capacity is estimated.

Are others finding this to be true? I had mine plugged in to charge while I was playing, err, exploring with it, and it seemed to be charging.
 
What is the "proper" amount of time to charge the battery? I usually charge mine over night(6-7) hours.

...however long it takes to reach 100%?

I usually charge on my commute to and from work and don't even bother plugging it in overnight.

what's new phone battery syndrome? i got the GN yesterday, and as i expected the screen sux the battery lol.

will battery life improve?

Mine will charge while I'm using it. Are you trying it with the AC charger or through your computer? It may not charge via the computer USB when in use, but I'm not sure, as I haven't tried that yet.

Note the AC charger will be MUCH faster than USB charging.

When you get a new phone, I guess the battery takes some time to get acclimated, so for the first few days of use at least it will have sub-par battery life. I don't know the detailed technical aspects of it, but it has something to do with getting a few charging cycles in, the phone getting used to your usage patterns, and black magic. I'm going to reserve judgment on the battery until I've had it for at least a full week or two.
 
Sadly even though the phone is great I may end up returning it tonight or tomorrow. The battery is better today but that is only cause I am not using it as much. I disabled a bunch of the usual battery hogs settings and I am at 50% life only 5hrs off the charger. At this rate the phone will make it to 2pm today with minimal use.

Android does not show actual usage times, it is showing time since last charged which is not important. Actual usage time is wha they should be displaying, which is maybe for me 1hr today before i left for work.

thank you. interesting. never heard of that.

i deleted all the bloatware verizon apps (there's only three). glad i am able to delete that crap. couldn't do that on my bionic.

No, the battery is the battery.

Android needs to collect battery stats and guess is that it helps with power management. If you look at any rom on any phone, the first statement is to wipe battery stats and give it a few days before reporting on battery life.

Usually life gets much better after a few days.
 
Yeah, battery life is draining pretty fast. Unplugged at 100% at 6:30am, did a few texting, about 1 hr of pandora on the way to work, played around with it some more for about 30-45 minutes. Screen display is set at ~45% brightness and can only get 3G at work. Checked the battery status and it's at 45% remaining at 10:30am (4hrs) with the following stats: 57% screen, 20% AOS, 5% phone idle, 5% mediaserver, 5% cell standby, 4% pandora, 2% android system.

I don't think it'll last a full day of moderate use. How do I turn 4G off when I'm in a 3G only location?

I hear people complaining about getting 6 hours of battery time when they streamed music for over an hour (which kills battery extremely fast on any phone), etc. I have gotten 8 hours today on my battery and I have about 5% left. I got an extra battery for 20 bucks at the store with the charger so I never have to plug the actual phone in. Best 20 bucks I have spent
 
Streaming pandora with the screen off shouldn't be that demanding on the battery, and that 1hr streaming was only 3% of the drainage according to that status indicator.
