Galaxy Nexus GSM cases and battery

One thing to watch for with the Nexus, the NFC antenna was put in the battery. Because of this, if a replacement battery is not "NFC" then the NFC on your phone will not work. In the example you posted, since it doesn't say it supports NFC, likely doesn't support NFC. Here is an eBay search for batteries with NFC.

A lot of people seem to like the Cruzer TPC cases for their Nexus, they fit well and keep the device thin. Much of it depends on how much protection you want the case to provide.

Thanks. I will consider that case. I kinda like that Android thing on the back.

This might sound like a dumb question but what is NFC used for exactly?

I know what it stands for but I've only heard of it when people want to use their smartphone as an extension for their wallets/credit card.

YAY, my Galaxy Nexus arrives today from the Google Play store. Can't wait. :D

1. Anybody know of any good-looking cases for Galaxy Nexus? or if you are using cool one, can you link me where you got it?

Can't help you with the battery thing...but I've bought several cases and was looking for the "right" case for awhile.

My sister-in-law has the SGS II and has this case for it (I don't like the purple...but the case design looks great IMO):

I picked up the case shown below from Amazon which has a very similar look and feel (although not quite the same quality). It's not a perfect case...but I'm enjoying it and for $5-$6 shipped...can't go wrong. It's available in different colors too (but I have not seen one where the transparent plastic is colored...just the outside TPU part). My wife has a purple one:

It stands for "Near Field Communication". It is what allows the Nexus to pass information to other phones with NFC by tapping them together, allows Google Wallet to work, etc.

Also, beware of cases made for the Verizon version of the phone. While most cases fit fine (it is good to check reviews, though), the Verizon Nexus is slightly thicker and cases made for the Verizon tend not to fit the GSM Nexus properly. In a few cases, people have noted that the phone not fitting tightly has scratched the phone (often the screen) as the phone rubs against the case.
