Galaxy Nexus or wait for something better?

My carrier just launched the Galaxy Nexus today I would have to pay $599 for it and was wondering should I wait for something better? Or pay $599 for a Nexus Galaxy?

Imho, there will be better phones coming out every month, so you will never have something better for much long, . But nexus phones (official google phones) do not come out often.

@ the OP

I see your using an Atrix... Which honestly I enjoyed owning! I loved the form factor...Awesome to say the least.

The GNex is fairly silmilar with the round edges...Much bigger of course, but similar.

Honestly, I could get into all the pro's and con's...But I'll make it simple for you...

The Galaxy Nexus is the Best Phone I have ever owned, and I've owned countless Android phones over the last couple of years...But if I had to answer the question as to which has been my favorite, the Galaxy Nexus takes the cake.

Just pull the trigger and get it if your funds allow it...It's pure Google, and your Future Proof for a while being that updates will come directly from Google. I'm hooked on the Nexus Line and will most likely not go back to using a phone that has a skin on it with an overlay built into the OS.... Stock Vanilla or bust is my feeling!

How long till a Galaxy Nexus 2 comes out and how many updates will the Nexus Galaxy get before google cones out with some other crazy spec that will omit this phone?

I would imagine the Galaxy Nexus will be updated for 18-24 months from release date by Google, perhaps longer. But like you said, who knows what technology will be coming out in the next 2 years that Google will include in the follow on Nexus, or the one after that, which will make an update to our phone unlikely. From what I can see, the push for more efficiency is the big thing, quad core, higher density batteries, low power screen tech.

The next Nexus phone will most likely not be branded on the Galaxy line, or even from Samsung...Could even be a Motorola Nexus! Wayyyyyy to early to speculate, the phone is probably about 10 months away. As for the next OS,,,That would be Jelly Bean...And most would agree that the Galaxy Nexus will be the 2nd Device running it. Second in fact to the Phone that carries the Nexus badge next, and releases with Jelly Bean on board.

as an example the first phone on the street to get ICS besides the G Nex was last years Nexus device. The Nexus S.

The G Nex is good for a while for updates. It will be the first to get the next Android OS update as well. (other than a phone coming with it)

Nexus devices are always the first devices to get OTA upgrades to the next OS version.

Perfect example #2. The Nexus S received Gingerbread at least 6 months before any other phone on the streets did.

nexus one came out jan 2010, then nexus S in dec 2010.. then galaxy nexus dec 2011.. I guess this will give u some idea about next google reference phone.

Most people argument is that there will be better phone out soon but its that always the case? If you sit and wait because something better might come out then you will be waiting forever. PULL THE TRIGGER and be happy now!

Totally true in the tech world. Quoted for the truth.

A couple of nights ago after a drink or two I was thinking about what my next phone will be like. How much will tech evolve by the time my NE2 is up? Honestly, I can only think of two things that could be improved upon. If they can come up with a way to take dSLR quality photos on a phone, that would be worthy of an upgrade. And as always, better battery life. That's it though. I don't want anything bigger than the GNex.

In the 20 months I owned the Incredible there wasn't really a phone to come along that blew my socks off compared to what I alread had. Granted there's a couple caveats to that. 1) I really didn't know what I was missing with Video calls while away from the fam. 2) We don't have 4G where I am, so that's a wash. 3) I was rooted so I had Gingerbread.

All that said, I doubt anything in the next 2 years will, IMHO, destroy the Nexus. Especially with the level stock ICS is on now, and knowing it'll most likely be able to run the next to OS upgrades (unless Google slows their roll).

I agree..Better Shooter & Battery life is what I'm after!

Hopefully the next Nexus...Because I cant see myself going back to a Skinned OS...

It really depends on what qualifies as "better" to you. If what you're looking for is a stock Android phone (with ICS no less), with an easy to unlock bootloader and that's easy to root, and has good dev support, then you probably won't find better than this phone for a while.

If you're looking for better hardware, then yes, there's always something better just around the corner, but like RageXicity said, you'll just be waiting forever.

If you have an upgrade discount coming up, I'd wait for that though, which is what I did, and by then there was news that Verizon was finally getting a Nexus phone, so I just had to wait (what turned out to be) a couple months for it. I didn't actually care about NFC, but now that I have Google Wallet (and the $10 from Google to try it out) I'm glad about that too.

There won't be anything better until the next Nexus around this time next year. I don't care about quad core or other specs or all that crap. Nothing is a Nexus.
