galaxy nexus to rezound people!

3rd party stores can sell you the phone at contracted prices but can't apply things like the loyalty discount, etc. But who knows, they may be more willing to help you find the right device for you with a bit of extra cooperative testing :) Good luck! Where are you located? Maybe a rezound owner nearby on these forums would be willing to help out, too. :)
 
Can some rezound users help me out here. If your not big into rooting isn't the GNEX kind of a pointless device to have? I really don't use roms a lot or do hacks, don't really have time for it. I'm guessing that Rezound might be better for me, I'm looking for more an all around entertainment device, videos, music, a device that I can get a few years out of?

Only a couple things I'm kind of worried about with the Rezound? Maybe you guys can answer these?

- I was at the VZW store, seems like the Rezound's camera was yellow, do the pictures come out like this or is it just while viewing the screen and is there a fix?
- Temp root can remove bloatware, correct?
- Is perm root something that is def going to happen on the Rezound, just a matter of when? Or could there be a possibility that it never sees perm root?
- Has anyone actaully seen lower 4G speeds on a Rezound rather than GNEX? I'd hate to return my GNEX only to get the same or lower speed than my GNEX.

I haven't had this hard of a time deciding between something since picking out a name for my son, lol. You guys think a Rezound or Nexus would make me happier, honestly?
 
The camera can take yellow tinted photos on auto setting. I messed with the settings and was able to take color accurate photos.

As for root, temporary or not, I don't know. Never bothered with it on any device.

The signal is decent and my personal experience has been 4g speeds have been phenomenal. 27 down and 12 up, using the same speed test on my dsl results in 5 down and usually less than 1 up.

That's what I've always heard too. FWIW, I called *611 to ask about this exact situation: I have a GNex but disappointed in its signal, I want to return it and get a Rezound instead. If the Rezound's signal is just as bad at work, I would want to return it for the GNex.

The woman I spoke with had to put me on hold a couple times to ask for answers (the first time I heard her ask how to put me on hold), so I take it she was new. Whomever she was asking DID tell her that every phone purchased has a new 14 day return window without limitations on how many can be returned.

I told her the sales rep at the store said you get only one return, and then the "lady" on the phone started getting... attitudey... with me, so I asked her to please note this call on my account and then got off the phone with her.

I'm counting on not needing to return the Rezound, but I would suggest calling customer service to see if they can notate on your account the situation your in. It may help, or it may not, but at least your being proactive.

Someone pointed out that some Verizon stores have a repeater inside the store. Thus the signal you get inside the store might not be indicative of how well the phone will perform in the "real world".

Rezound and Nexus are TERRIBLE names for your boy... ;) :p
 
After extensive research I have come to the conclusion that the Nexus is a flasher's dream. People who love to flash a new ROM every couple of days with be happy with the Nexus. I found after flashing about every ROM out there on my Droid X, I was tired of trying to find a ROM that worked 100% and didn't cripple something. MIUI messed up the camera, etc. Yet a lot of people run it anyway because they love the interface. It's easy to overlook issues when you love flashing ROM's on your phone, even though the phone may not quite work right here or there. So, I am not surprised that some Nexus owners can be perfectly happy even though their camera may not take good shots or they may lose data, or their volume and build quality are sub par. There's always the anticipation that an update will fix everything in the world of flashers. The next update, or next ROM is what flashers live for.

I decided that I don't want to have to flash a ROM on my phone to be happy with it. I want a phone that has all the features I like out of the box. Toggles in the notification bar, scrollable widgets, screen shots, etc. I would like to remove bloatware and restore backups with TB. I understand we can already do this with the Rezound although I haven't tried it yet. The Rezound has exceeded my expectations in every way possible. I don't need to flash a ROM on it because it works perfectly and it looks amazing.

So, if you are looking for a phone to flash, you will probably enjoy the Nexus. If you're looking for a phone that will give you a great out of the box experience, you would probably like the Rezound. It will be upgraded to ICS and something tells me I am going to like it on the Rezound much better than I would like it on the Nexus because I like having the soft keys on my phone.

I have not owned a Nexus, I did go to my local Verizon store to play with it on release day. I already had my Rezound and just wanted to make sure I had made the right choice.
 
Verizon allows one exchange, period. You have a gnex, but want a rezound? Better be damn sure and oh by the way, cough up $35 too.

There is a way around it, but you will need to have a back-up phone to use. If you have one phone and don't like it and exchange for another and don't like that either, bring it back for a refund. Activate your back-up, wait until your account resets. Now I have heard that this can be somewhat iffy. I have also heard that doing this may cause your upgrade to disappear. I have also heard that it does work. Take it all with a grain of salt. Do so at your own risk.

This might be subjectable to your particular store of choice. I have been back and forth between Verizon Corporate stores and to this point have have returned my Nexus 3 times (on my fourth and final). Each time they mention that they have a policy of only returning it once, however, if you have a legitimate concern/problem with the device, they will exchange it. Believe me, they are not going to stick you with a phone that does not work for 2 years.

With that said, if you just go in because you dont care for the way your Nexus 'looks', and want the Rezound....that is an entirely different situation and you will be held to one return.

-Changing the white balance to incandescent got rid of the yellow tint problem that can arise from the auto setting. Once I did that, the camara on the rezound has taken the best pictures of any phone I've owned.

-Temp root cannot remove bloat. But it can disable bloat by freezing apps. This essentially has the same impact as removing. The bloat also will not come back on reboot. Only a hard (factory) reset will bring them back. But that's actually a good thing since if you mess up during freezing, there is a way to restore your phone to the way it was prior to any tinkering.

-I really don't know if perm root will be achieved. I think it will, but I also think it may be far off -- as in after ICS drops. For now, I'm okay with debloating and de-sensing. After having done so, my rezound runs like a champ. With GO Launcher as my primarily driver (5 home screens with widgets on all of them) I have no lag and every app, including graphic intensive games like Deadspace, run smooth. HD video playback is also smooth as silk, including those troublesome mkv files. I honestly don't know if this phone could be any smoother (at least 99% of the time).

-Don't have a GNex to compare speeds, but I've never been NOT satisfied with the 4G speeds my rezound has delivered.

That is what I've been told as well. Basically unlimited returns for problematic issues (where they waive the restocking fee), but only one "whatever reason" return/exchange (where you have to pay the restocking fee). Maybe if you get a nice CSR, they may be willing to make an exception.

It's not on top of Sense, other launchers replace the Sense launcher (and thus can't use the Sense widgets). GO runs perfectly.

Excellent, welcome! I'd love to find out more details of your extended vs. standard battery. Several people insist the extended door has even more substantial antenna material but that it's embedded or painted over -- is that what you notice? And is your 3G as fast & reliable now w/the extended?

Not at all. Its big advantages are the immediate availability of the brand new Android 4.0, the 4.7" SAMOLED screen that many (not all!) prefer due to better blacks and more vivid colors, and its NFC capabilities.

Not guaranteed ever to happen, although most won't be surprised if a solution is found within the next couple months. It's possible that HTC themselves will provide a boot unlocking tool for the Rezound, but i wouldn't hold your breath. I want root, but will be satisfied if the official ICS upgrade happens relatively soon.

I was specifically referring to moving from one device to another. There is no limit (based soley upon verizon's discretion) when exchanging a defective device.

Thanks....right now I'm digging Sense but I may move to something else like ADW EX. I really like that Sense stock market widget BTW.

That's what appears to be the case. Yes, it's painted over....I can tell because there is a small swath of antenna material straddling a small open area in the upper left corner of the back. And there does indeed to be more antenna area. I cannot confirm if that equates to better signal. I only briefly tested signal strength between the stock cover and the extended battery cover (no additional testing since my previous post) and didn't see a difference. One thing is for sure....today I have 0% signal loss on cell standby. If it were the Nexus, I'd be around 15% or more today. Very clearly the antenna/radio is better than the Nexus in difficult signal areas. Both 3g and 4g performance is better on the Rezound.

So far I'm really liking this phone....I can see why those who bought this before the Nexus release were reluctant to trade. Hopefully nothing will pop up to cause me problems.

I was all ready to thank you for putting my mind at ease, and then two new discouraging posts appear in another thread. I'm loving the new longevity -- phone still has ~20% left after 30hrs disconnected from charger -- but I'll have to collect some A/B tests of my own. :confused:
 
Did you by chance spot that small gap i was talking about at the top where the antenna in the extended battery spans a small gap where you can see underneath it? I haven't seen a pic that shows it but if you cannot spot it then there is perhaps a defect in your cover/antenna. Worse of all, no antenna at all. I just walked around my house with 4g on, horrible signal near 100 dBms and was able to achieve 6100 kbps DL. I could never do that with my Nexus. Then again, I've had this thing for just a day and you have more experience with it. BTW, itsjepty had his unfortunate problem with the stock cover also. The bugaboo I've been playing with today is email not syncing up per my auto sync schedule. Things seem to work if I manually go and do it but I shouldn't have to do it.
 
After nearly two weeks of debating between the Nexus and Rezound, putting them both to the test, I took the Nexus back today. There is a lot to like about that phone, particularly if you are one who supposedly isn't experiencing any of the issues being talked about.

For me, the facts that the Rezound pulled 3G when the Nexus didn't, didn't buffer on movies and streaming when the Nexus did, didn't data drop when the Nexus did, didn't display weird blocky/blotchiness on darks during movie playback like the Nexus, has a much better performing camera, etc....it was just too much to pass up in order to own the Nexus.

One of the things I LOVED about the Nexus was the keyboard. Having found and installed that keyboard on my Rezound really made the decision even that much easier. Plus, I find the colors to be much more accurate on the LCD screen and I prefer the bright white backdrops of web pages on the Rezound to the eggshell white/darker backgrounds on the Nexus.

Very happy that I finally made a decision and I am confident it was the right one for me!!

S-OFF is basically what allows you to install a custom recovery and then flash other ROMs. It basically allows you to write to the NAND flash memory in the device, which is normally write protected.

That's a good description and generally true, but Scott of Scott's ROMs in XDA today specifically said that the newly unlocked Rezound bootloader allows us to install recovery ROMs including new kernels. I think his comments were that we could do all of the same things now, just not always as directly or simply as if we had S-Off.
 
Just returned my nexus... Cant believe I returned that phone.. it was awesome! I'm really liking the rezound so far.. it definitely seems smaller. And there's some things I've got to do to it to make it how I like it. That was the thing about the gnex.. ICS was nice almost just as it came... I cant wait to get it on the rezound.. thats really the only thing i miss... Maybe the keyboard i liked better, but I just have to get used to this.. Not disappointed and I really think im going to be happy the next two years...
