Galaxy Nexus vs HTC One

edge

Android Enthusiast
Has anyone here had their hands on both? I saw a review on The Verge got the HTC One. It looked pretty cool. I had the Evo a while back and it was a good little phone. The Nexus has been good as well, but is it going to be better than the HTC One? They aren't in the US yet, so UK guys?

The One X is a generation ahead of the Galaxy Nexus; they aren't really any more comparable than the iPhone 4 is to the 4S. The One X is significantly better.

I agree that the one is a generation ahead. The Snapdragon S4 makes it loads faster than the Nexus' TI OMAP processor. The S4 scored nearly at 5,000 on Quadrant Standard.

But, with similar screen sizes and both being 720p HD. I still believe the Super AMOLED HD display is better than HTC's Super IPS display.

Just my two cents on the subject.

I'm a huge believer that the biggest draw of a phone is not in the specs but in the appearance. To me, the One X looks terrible.

+1

Also i don't think there is any reason to be disappointed with the Nexus -> its awesome!

(and you don't have to put up with HTC sense -> I prefer the stock ICS launcher.. although obviously sense can be replaced with something like Nova Launcher.)

The processor is faster and camera seems impressive in One X, but Nexus still fares well in other departments and holds edge on OS front.

Though improved over 3.X, Sense 4.0 is still too much distraction from stock ICS and fixed 1800mAh battery is big minus to me. Nexus got some backlash for not having micro sd slot, and One X went one step further in becoming Android iPhone (no micro sd, no removable battery). But I'm sure it's great phone for some others not caring about things like this.

Inmo, the ability to update before anyone else wins in this case. That said though, the htc looks sweet, ive always liked htc stuff

These are my thoughts exactly. By the time I am ready to get a new phone, the One might be over here in the US. I have considered it, but the ease of rooting and the fact updates come straight from Google, still has me stuck on the GNex. I'm tired of official updates being bloated by HTC and then butchered and bloated some more by Verizon like with my Incredible.

The One will be a power house of a phone. I have always liked HTC stuff too but I have had enough of Sense. I have had a chance to play with stock ICS on a couple of devices and there is no need anymore for the skins on top of Android. I didn't know that the battery in the One was not user replaceable. That is another deal breaker.

As far as looks go , the nexus is 403946 times better looking. The new EVO 4g LTE is so ugly ...... Ugh

It's been almost 4 months since I got my GNex, and I couldn't make it any longer on my old phone. The GNex has already held on to the top dog spot longer than I would have expected.

Another thing I have fallen in love with on the Nexus is the uninterrupted black front. It just looks so good. I think the HTC wins on the back design though.

Yes the One X is obviously more powerful BUT...

Have you had a good look at the comparison videos on the web?

The speed difference is minor in terms of UI performance is very very minor.

Sense bloats the phone and slows it down MASSIVELY! Always has and always will.

I personally prefer the vanilla ICS experience and like getting my updates straight from google.

Super Amoled wins every time.

Even if an app opens 0.00352 of a second earlier on the HTC phone... If oyu used that one for a day and then used the nexus for a day you probably wouldnt be able to say " oh yeah theb HTC is way faster! " You wouldnt be able to tell a difference.

For me Nexus still wins.

Be interesting to see the benchmarks. Personally, I think the statement "Sense bloats the phone and slows it down MASSIVELY! Always has and always will." is an exaggeration of epic proportions (see what I did there??). Sense and other skins were buzzkills on performance in the early days of Android with the benefit of added features and more polish to Android, but with better hardware, the skins, and particularly Sense, are far less performance impacting compared to yesteryear.

The real difference for me comes down to actual use and the speed and feel of the phone in everyday use. My gut is it will be unlikely that these "next gen" phones will feel that much faster in everyday use compared to the GNex, but the jury is still out on that of course. Having vanilla Android is pretty much non-negotiable for me as long as vanilla is a choice. I will consider an HTC phone for my next purchase if VZW manages to screw up enough to not have another vanilla android device. Then I will purchase a phone that is root friendly, especially if it will be skinned, which at this point means samsung or htc. I have always liked HTC designs, although the EVO 4G or whatever ridiculously long name it has, doesn't tickle my fancy with that two tone back with the red strip to break it up.

Just my opinion though. Specs matter to me, but only in as much as it affects my daily use. Remember, the Nexus wasn't even the "most powerful" phone when it finally launched.

Evo 4G LTE will be the best android phone on Sprint for some time. It's basically One X with Tegra3 swapped with Krait S4/LTE chip. S4 is the latest generation of Qualcomm processor, integrated LTE radio based on 28nm chip process, which makes chips in Rezound the last generation. It will be monster phone on verizon, but unfortunately Sprint LTE network is nowhere near to take full advantage of this phone.

It seems Samsung is close to announcing their flagship GSIII with new Exynos, HD SAMOLED+ in a few months. I think battle for android king will be mainly between HTC and Samsung, and Motorola seems falling behind a bit. But verizon won't get phones like this until late Q3 at the earliest.

Yeah, Verizon will continue to lag on the best phones, since they are so heavily invested in Moto, and Moto just can't seem to break through. And I hate blur.

I'm sure spec-wise the HTC One X will beat it. But I'm not too terribly concerned. The Nexus is already pretty powerful and should last us quite some time and besides, its already going on 6 months old. It can't stay at the top forever. Plus, we do have an advantage in the sense that we don't need to worry about HTC or Verizon breaking the rooting ability of the device and custom ROMs can really increase the lifespan of a phone.

What the... why a fixed battery? And such a small one at that! Looks like I will be sticking with my nexus

Phonearena put out their comparison review of these two phones. Surprisingly the camera quality on One X doesn't seem to be that great as media hypes make us to believe. Maybe we need to stop hating Nexus camera.

HTC One X vs Samsung Galaxy Nexus - Camera and Multimedia

That review is pretty interesting... a lit if the problems with the one x seem to be sense related...

I reckon a change in camera app, a different keyboard app, chrome browser etc. Would solve a lot of problems.

If I did get the one x I'd be looking to get a new rom straight away... I really don't feel the need with vanilla ics on the nexus.

Had a quick play with the one x today, sense definitely made it feel slower to me compared to my nexus. I'd be putting a stock firmware on ;)

HTC Sensation was once the "top dog" too and is "a generation ahead" of the Nexus S. But now if given the choice, would you rather get the Sensation or the Nexus S?

I think the same thing applies here. I'd go for the Nexus.
