Hello. Big update from the tluley part of the forums...
Called VZW again seeing as they told me last Friday that they would call me back regarding my reception issue and they never did. Told them the problem which most of you know already but long story short, I get terrible reception at my house and my house only even though I am in the middle of a 4g area based off their maps. So I got connected straight to tier 2 tech and expressed my problems and sure enough after telling her about the problem, I lose reception and the call gets dropped. Bingo. Perfect timing I guess. I call back and get through 5 minutes of the stupid automated phone system and eventually the tier 2 tech lady called me back shortly after. She expressed how even if I am testing the dbm of my device on regular 3g CDMA versus a 3g device on CDMA, the results are going to be completely different due to still different radio's and the comparison just isn't correct. I expressed how I still thought it was fishy that a newer amazing phone drops calls in 3g when my year and a half old Droid X never dropped calls. I told her I honestly didn't think my device was defective seeing as I can pull full LTE about 1/4 mile down the road either direction, it just seems that I am having bad luck in between 2 towers. She agreed, but gave me the option of having a brand new Nexus shipped to me anyways just to test out and see if the connection is any better on another one. I agreed to accept the offer and a new Nexus will be here for me on Monday or Tuesday.
After talking to some friends about it, if I get this device and it DOESN'T solve my problem (which I think it won't, it really is just my luck that I am in the only soft spot of LTE in Greenville, SC) then why would I use the new device? I have about 3 or 4 hours of customization and things on the memory of the phone that wouldn't be worth getting a Nexus just a week and a half newer, right? Do you think it would be a problem if I activated the new phone to see how the reception is then call them and let them know the problem wasn't fixed, then reactivate my old phone? It would just be nice to not lose all the customization I have done and not have to AGAIN unroot and relock the bootloader which I have already done once. Suggestions?
