Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

So my app downloads have skyrocketed over the past couple of weeks. Since August 5th I've had over 200 active installs added which puts me over the 6,000 mark :)

Just an FYI regarding Moto Maker, it appears Moto has removed the ability to add custom engravings on the back of the phone for the time being, if not permanently. I couldn't get mine added this morning, kept giving an error, but it wasn't important to me, so I just ordered anyway. Called a CSR for Moto to see if it would be added back in case my wife wanted something on hers and was told the feature had been removed from Moto Maker.

On a brighter note, she also checked my order status and it was in process and should arrive in 4 days, contrary to the 7-8 days estimated at completion of my order online.

Wow, kind of lame they took out the custom Engraving. That is a huge feature.

Congrats on the app downloads - mine have been falling and falling lately for some reason. Oh well - people are still using it and loading ads everyday.

Need to update it with some new features though. Maybe on the plane ride over to California next week.

Morning all. Some crazy rain in my town yesterday, lots of roads flooded and unfortunately a few homes and apartments too. Thankfully the worst of it stayed about a mile from my house, we still got about an inch, but some people got 5" in two hours!

Hi folks!

What a weekend! Saturday we jet out to Missouri to... pick up a dog... stay Sunday, on the road all day yesterday, and this morning Dish guy came to replace my POS VIP-922 receiver with a Hopper system. Which had better be something slightly less of a POS than the 922.

Tonight I have a speech to deliver against prescription pseudoephedrine (which won't put a dent in the meth problem). One of these days I may have time to actually chill with my Gnex friends before my Gnex gets retired!

:)

Hope everyone's week is progressing smoothly - Anti: build an ark!

Haha, more rain today, not as much, only about 2/10ths. River between work and home is rising fast again. All I gotta say is if we get a slow moving tropical storm or hurricane in the next month, it's going to be devastating, and that's NOT including storm surge or wind. :p

Not to get political at all, but a quick education on the issue:

Pseudoephedrine, for those not familiar, is the active decongestant ingredient in Sudafed (get it?) and many other allergy/cold remedies. It is very effective. It is also a main ingredient in crystal methamphetamine production.

Oregon and Mississippi banned over-the-counter pseudoephedrine sales in an attempt to stop meth... but all it did was drive up costs and transfer the problem from homegrown meth labs to Mexican drug cartels. Now 80+% of our country's meth comes straight across our wide-open southern border from Mexico.

And making law-abiding citizens get an appointment, go to the doctor, get a prescription and go to the pharmacy for a decongestant every time they get the sniffles will do absolutely nothing to stop a problem that doesn't originate here. It's more useless than a band-aid on cancer.

That's the gist of the speech... I'm trying to stop a knee-jerk "feel good" response that will do absolutely nothing to control the meth problem.

Thanks for the good luck wishes. I hope it helps!

:)

Didn't think Sudafed worked without it?;)
For those, we just have to show an ID to get (and usually Target doesn't have a huge stock of). No big deal, and nothing we would abuse.
I'm more pissed because it is, along with lye, an ingredient for making meth. Now it's very difficult to find straight lye which I use for making soap.

Chief, your talkin' to the husband of a pharmacist, I know the story. The new issue is the shake and bake, where they don't need large quantities.

Dread, if you don't need to go the the pharmacy counter and show ID, it doesn't contain it anymore. For me, that is what works (pseudoephedrine, not meth, no confusion)

Hey has anyone used the Helium Backup App? I tried it, but I am not sure I like it. There doesn't seem to be a way to just install the data for an app. It want's to reinstall the whole app, and for things like the gapps apps, it is just bogging down and messing things all up.

Wondering if I am just missing a setting somewhere. I think I will be sticking with my TiBU.

Same. My doctor even makes a point to tell me to make sure I get the pseudoephedrine when I have a nasty chest cold because the replacement doesn't work very well from what he has seen. Putting it behind the counter hasn't slowed down meth production, making it a prescription won't either. Just cause headaches for the law abiding among us...

Slow in here lately. Still no word on shipping of my Moto X. Looks like original online estimate was correct in receiving it next Tuesday as opposed to 4 business days they told me on the phone.

My Nexus has been unbearable. I was ready to throw it thru a wall yesterday. The Moto X is tempting on Friday even though I can only get the 16gb and no customization.

It is going to be hard to wait until November. If I do I'll have the Moto X and the PS4 comes out on the 15th, I have that pre ordered.

After talking to my landlord the other day I learned he has been running cable for cell phone towers. They are currently working on 111 towers around here for At&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. I got excited when he said T-Mobile. However, he mentioned the T-Mobile towers were mostly for the surrounding State College area which is close by but I'm not sure it will make it much usable here in Altoona. I really wish they would build up service more here. We have a satellite Penn State campus and lots of people, makes sense to me. It might be a small city but still a city.

More rumors of the new Nexus phone to be based on LG G2 and this time word is of a glass back. Why, oh why, must they insist on glass blacks?! Who the heck wants a glass back?! Thankfully this won't be on Verizon...I hope.

The glass back on a phone gives people what they cry about a lot, a higher build quality that doesn't feel like cheap plastic. Aluminum has it's positives, but it also has it's negatives like denting when it drops. I'm personally not a fan of the glass back, but it doesn't get on my nerves.
Glass backs allow inductive charging, ala the Nexus 4 which was also made by LG.

I'm not a fan either, as a plastic or composite/carbon fiber back could accomplish the same thing. But many do complain about build quality, even though they have no idea what they are talking about.

Been a while since hanging out here, just staring to get the bug for a new phone, although my GNex has treated me well since Day 1. Think its more spec envy than any practical reason since there's nothing it isn't doing that other phones can. If the volume was a bit louder and signal strength was a bit better, doubt I'd even be looking.

Signal strength and battery life are now and have always been my two big qualms with this phone, but here lately it takes forever to get a GPS lock and I am getting horrible lag ocassionally.

Since moving on to an S3, things have been so much better. Still running AOSP ROMs (can't get on 4.3 due it being so beta right now). Quite happy. :)
