Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

For those with the G2 - does the Verizon's version of the buttons and their placement feel weird? I know they look much cheaper compared to AT&T and the international configurations, but just wondering if they look as cheap as they do in review shots.

Hi Stigy, I don't know about other versions, but to me the back buttons actually feels intuitive. The Verizon ones are relatively flush so they are actually a little hard to feel but as NJ said, the knock knock feature keeps you from hardly using the back buttons. I think they actually look better , kind of a brushed aluminum on the verizon.

I'm thinking of going G2 also.

Halon, I REALLY like this phone. It really is very customizable. i just realized i can put google voice search as one of the constant icons right above the nav buttons....sweet! I also find "clip tray" very useful.

This day in 2008, Google released a new concept to the world: the G1,running something called "Android 1.0". It was primitive by today's standards, but showed incredible potential.

Now, over one billion activations later, Android has come into its own... with plenty of potential for further growth and potential. Happy 5th birthday Android! :D

How is the G2 as a speaker phone?

IMO, way better than the Nexie., just had a call with my mom and she did not know i was on speaker. The speaker is louder, in the car, navigation voice was easily heard over road noise from our hemi, something always difficult with the Nexus. Another cool feature that is very usable is that if the phone is ringing, you can simply lift it to your ear to answer it. I tried to fool it by lifting it vertically, covering it with a dark rag etc to get it to answer accidentally, but so far only when i lift it to my ear to answer a call. This is very handy in our house as my technology challenged husband always had a hard time answering my phone. Now he can easily grab it when it is ringing and I am outside.

I agree with above.

Battery is exceptional. Currently off charger for 5 hrs, battery at 99% and have an estimated 357 hours remaining. :D I have everything turned on, BT, WiFi, Google Now, Updating Widgets, Sync, Screen brightness to 100%, etc. I'm not doing anything to save power at all and I'm still pushing these numbers.

Obviously that's not much use (only 15 min screen time), but you know our GNex's would be down at least 20% under the same conditions.

The screen is so much brighter it's not even funny. Outside at the beach in the sun yesterday I could actually see the screen, with sunglasses on. I'll see if I can put both phones together and take a pic so you get an idea on how much brighter it is than the GNex Amoled screen.

i am off charger now 11 hours and am at 52 %. Screen on time is 2.5 hours and I have the baseline for the auto brightness set at 100 %. Everything is on, data, wifi, bluetooth, location. Besides on screen time, i have also used navigation, voice search and streamed xm. NJ is right about the ability to see this outside, we live at the beach and the glare outside is tremendous, i can see the G2 (GiGi) easily, even with sunglasses on. This is a huge difference from the Nexie.

 That's pretty impressive.

Realistically, 12.5 hours on battery with normal use and at 80%.

But I'm starting to sound like a commercial and worst yet ....not getting paid for it.

So hopefully the Note 3 is released on Verizon soon for our friends looking to go that route. Its a great time in mobile computing.

And now for something completely different....

NFL season is shaping up to be quite weird this year.

Indeed. KC, among the worst last season, is 3-0 with Alex Smith, and 49er's are 1-2 after dumping Smith and going with Kaepernick who has been shaky recently.

KC is 3-0, but far from a good team. Eagles gave them every opportunity last week and it was still a close game. KC goes up against a quality opponent and they're going to get killed. But best of luck to Andy Reid. He needed a new team.

Bears are another team that's not as good as their record suggests.

49ers are looking quite flakey as well.

Super bowl super bears ;)

That new offense hasn't really been tested yet, but we'll see. History says theyll blow it.

49era are better than their record suggests. Theyve played solid teams. I'd still put them as one of the top teams on that side of the bracket

Well, not all that unusual in Western NY football wise. Bills are 1-2 and on their way to yet another losing season. :banghead:

Love it!

The Note 3 has an S-view cover with Qi wireless charging built into it. Wow, what a concept - I will jump on that as soon as it's available!

Very sweet, the Qi is built into verizons version of GiGi. I already ordered a regular charging pad for it as well as a quick window case. Fun Fun!

The Pirates are guaranteed at least a wildcard game. That is some what great news after all these years. But we have fallen apart the past couple weeks. If it comes down to one game....well..fingers crossed. I'm hoping they get back on track and don't have to worry about a wild card game.

It is great to come to the GNWH and see the love for Android! Today I sold my Nexus 4 and popped my SIM into my G1. Flashed a custom Gingerbread ROM (it was running unrooted Android 1.0; had to do some modding, of course) and I could not be more excited!

Hearing everyone talk about new phones makes me slightly jealous but it shall pass. :banghead: I am grateful to not be beholden to one carrier and feel for those who must endure that painful scenario.

I'll be getting the Nexus 5 and...gasp...an iPhone 5 soon. The Wife will be getting an iPhone too very soon. We need to save some money and working at Best Buy has its perks in terms of plans we can choose.

The Wife has wanted an iPhone for a long time because she loves the cases and is a lighweight smartphone user. She doesn't need or really want what Android can offer. So the iPhone will be my compatibility line (read: Facetime and iMessage).

I will still be an Android first guy, no matter what!

And as I type this out on the first Android device to ever grace the market I am pleased. It is nastolgic to have a physical keyboard and to look at ugly Gingerbread!

Happy Birthday Android! I'm celebrating your birth, truly, the old fashioned way!

jmar

P.S. I hate you all with new phones! ;):D:beer:
