Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

I punched it...3 times :D

I guess I should say that when the touchpad would act up I would give it a little punch and then it worked fine. Well, I had to do that earlier and it didn't work so I did it 3 times. Why 3 times? Because 3.

Start up test failed
Hard disk test failed
Won't boot up

Two expensive lessons learned this year: don't set federal exemptions to 3(this made me owe taxes for the first time) and don't punch my laptop.

Edit: it has been running for an half hour and kinda booted into safe mode. I have a cursor nothing to cluck on. I shall reboot.

Good luck Halon!

We try to strike a delicate balance where we don't get a HUGE refund (which is nothing more than an overpayment of taxes all year and an interest-free loan to the government) and owing tax. If we can get a small, meager refund each year, that's right where we want to sit :)

I ended up setting my federal at 1. I can change it when ever I want but I'll keep it there and I think I'll be safe with that.

Mystery solved!

The rumors about the Note 4 are turning into the things of science fantasy. 3-sided display with a flexible OLED screen; either 2K or even 4K display; fingerprint reader in the home button and eye scan as a backup in the front-facing camera; IP67 rated-for dust and water resistance; Android 5.0 Lollipop; sightly larger display than the Note 3; 64-bit processor (IF Android is capable of running 64-bit); and as much as 4GB RAM.

As much as I love these specs, they scare me. This phone could end up costing $900 at full retail! Looks like the ol' Chief needs to re-tool his tech fund and give it a little boost. I shouldn't have any problem buying the Note 4 and an Android Wear smartwatch this year (you hear that, Sammy? No Tizen for me!)... but that may be ALL the goodies I get.

:)

^ Just like the S5 was going to have a 2K display and 3Gb of RAM?
I don't buy any of those Note 4 rumors. I have a feeling it'll be another iterative update from the N3.

that sounds amazing but the price is scary lol after being on the note 3 now for a few months I think it would be hard for this phone to be topped

Well, I'd like to think that the Note 4 will be the Note 3 that couldn't be. They had to make the Note 3 the way they did, limited by technology. They've had another year to perfect stuff... so my expectations are kinda high for it :)

Trying to save my laptop and I can't do a factory reset. Can't do anything.

Drat.

Don't punch your laptop, kids.

Oh well.

I've been meaning to sell my PS3 with all the games and accessories. So a new laptop is a good reason to sell it. The money was supposed to go towards a new turntable, but I'm going thru laptop withdrawal.

Exactly, Chief. I read these phone rumors nowadays and don't get excited at all. Not that it doesn't seem good; it's that it is 99% most likely not anywhere near the truth.

I'm so sick of these phone rumors that are based on nothing but the opinions of people who aren't in the know and have missed way more than they've hit.

I'll just wait and see. I'm perfectly content with my Note 3. I just finished watching the first season of True Detective (great acting!), and I'm so comfortable watching it on this gorgeous screen, that the one episode I watched on the big-screen TV felt very off!

Thanks to the new 128GB microSD card, I have lots of room on this phone for movies!

I have all 6 Star Wars movies (you'd be proud, Han)
The Back to the Future trilogy
All the Indiana Jones movies

and plenty of room to spare for more!

:)

Lol. I'm not much into movies at the moment. I'm binge watching The Tudors, Walking Dead (have the season finale to see), Hannibal, and Bates Motel.

I've only got a lowly 64GB card, but it suits me just fine. I'll wait til the prices on the 128 go down a bit.

Chief, how often and/or where do you watch movies on your phone? Just curious; never thought I'd ever watch anything more than the occasional YT video on mine.

I'm not in the habit of watching entire movies either... but when I'm at a dental appointment, THEY have a habit of running late. So it's either watch Dish Anywhere ( 200 channels of nothing :p ) or part of a movie. With my BT stereo headset, I can watch without bothering anyone else.

It's handy while waiting on my Darling Bride's appointments as well.

I'm a memory hoarder, what can I say? If they made a 1 TB microSD card, I'd probably buy one :D

Same here. I've never been in a situation where I needed to watch an entire movie in one sitting on my phone.

Train and bus journeys, maybe hospital waiting rooms, where might have enough time to watch an entire season of something or watch several full length movies on the phone. Which I find more engaging than just staring at the wall... :p

Which BT headset do you use, Chief? Does it sync well with the video?

My BT headset is good only for music b/c it's way off when I play it to video. There's like a half second to a whole second lag.

I use some really good Klipsch buds for video, but it's still wired.
