Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Okay, guys, I'm going to attempt to unlock the bootloader and root tonight. I'm very scared. The freaking instructions are like a million steps long just to unlock.

I thought this was super easy??

I hate to be that guy, but if you're scared and find it confusing, maybe you should wait until the procedure has been more tested, simplified, and bulletproofed.

Eh what am I saying... Go Han, you're not a real man unless you root it within the first 12hrs!

anyone know why i cant get on my wifi at home.as soon as i type password the connect option goes away.if i try to connect without password it says authentication problem???? please help.......

please ignore this.apparently im a total boob.have been using wrong password,oops...
srr, this is my first smartphone and im still suffering the effects of nex-shock.

I'm in the process now. I'll let you know.

You should be OK. I was able to do it no problem after I realized it bootloops for a while before the bootloader reboots the phone. I kept freaking about it but after I just let it be for a little it stopped and all was well. Unlocked now. Going to wait to root for a week or so yet. Hope it goes well!

Yea I have, but I can't find anyone that will change the date. Verizon just won't budge! I bummed but it's not the end of the world - it was released (finally!) and I'll have it soon enough.

My early upgrade date isn't until 12/28, but I was able to get them to push it up to today and still received my NE2. I'm not sure if it's because I'm a OneBill customer or since I told them my Incredible was damaged, but it worked.

Try using the *611, 0 (for live person), say upgrade. It actually worked for me 3 times, but that was before the Gnex was actually available.

so i know back in the mega-thread people were asking about how the razr sales were doing... well today while picking up my gnex, i ran into an old friend from high school who is now the mgr of the store i was at. we got to talking about the gnex, and i asked him how many they had and he told me 60. i then asked him if the razr launch day was anything like today, and he chuckled and said "uhhhhh, NO!". i asked him if they werent doing as well as they had hoped, and he said they received 100 on launch day and still have over half of them in stock. so clearly not a national picture, but the razr just isnt going over like vzw hoped

Scared the crap out of me for a while because it was stuck in a bootloop. But I just plugged the USB back in, and it rebooted by itself.

It did a factory reset, activated itself again, now I'm good to go!!

Hey all! Good to see you again ;-)

I found out today that the reseller where I got my phone ONLY HAD ONE! Thank god I called when I did.

I got my phone & I LOVE it! I'm new to the whole root/unlock thing. I was wanting to try it but I'm terrified. How simple/hard is it? I looked in the root section but it's all Greek to me...

Any advice?

Wow, what a day. I've been busy flying and now I have to go have dinner with my copilot. I don't have time to catch up on this thread, but I'll be back later to share some wine and stories with you all.

Now for some dinner, and then ROOT!

I successfully rooted mine this afternoon... funny thing is, I didn't realize it at first because the instructions I was following were a little unclear. Thought I was stuck, rebooted, and figured I'd try again later. But then it occurred to me to check my app drawer, and there was Superuser. Success!

So rooting turns out to be fairly easy, at least using the method I used. It just seems hard.

I am too chicken to root just yet. Still scrolling through apps to see what works and what doesn't. I am curious though. Does anyone know what you are supposed to use instead of the menu button? How are you supposed to import data into your apps, save the settings for said apps, etc without the menu button?

Which method?

I bootlooped mine using the boot.img file. Relocked the bootloader and unlocked and it fixed it all. I was pretty impressed I managed to buy the phone and bootloop it within a couple hours.

Still not rooted, going to wait a couple days till some of the 4.02 issues get worked out.

I choose not to root because I prefer to keep the warranty intact... especially on a phone as unproven as this one. If something goes south, I need it repaired NOW. Not after I "unroot" it and restore it to stock. Besides: since I refuse to wirelessly tether, I really have no need to root.

Rooting is as adventurous as it is beneficial: if you don't have a lump in your throat and a pulse rate of 200, youre not doing it right. Even veterans do it rather nervously.

You guys have fun!

Bootloader unlocked.

Also a night (low-light shot) for you guys. Lights were barely on in the lady's car and it came out really, really well IMO.

I was terrified, too.

But if you follow these instructions TO THE FRAKKING "T", you'll be golden.

To unlock:

To root (way easier than unlocking):

I suck at explaining things, but following those directions is the best way.

I'm now unlocked and rooted!
