Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Which method?

I ended up using Paul O'brien's Superboot method. It's one of the ones linked here:

http://androidforums.com/galaxy-nexus-all-things-root/452146-how-root-samsung-galaxy-nexus.html

The catch (for me, anyway) was realizing that there is no visible indication of success. The phone boots to a Google logo and just sits there. Apparently, at that point you're done. Took seconds.

When you launch the SDK Manager for the first time it will ask for which packages to install. The only package we are concerned with at this time is "Android SDK Tools, revision 15", "Android SDK Platform-tools, revision 9" & "Google USB Driver package, revision 4". You can reject all the others if you are not interested in them.

Mine says "revision 16". Keep getting an error message. won't go any further.

I am too chicken to root just yet. Still scrolling through apps to see what works and what doesn't. I am curious though. Does anyone know what you are supposed to use instead of the menu button? How are you supposed to import data into your apps, save the settings for said apps, etc without the menu button?

There is a tiny little area on the bottom right that looks like 3 dots stacked on top of one another. That's the menu

I choose not to root because I prefer to keep the warranty intact... especially on a phone as unproven as this one. If something goes south, I need it repaired NOW. Not after I "unroot" it and restore it to stock. Besides: since I refuse to wirelessly tether, I really have no need to root.

Rooting is as adventurous as it is beneficial: if you don't have a lump in your throat and a pulse rate of 200, youre not doing it right. Even veterans do it rather nervously.

You guys have fun!

Yup I was too scared for these reasons. The main reason I wanted to root was for backup purposes but I think there are plenty of non-root options for that anyway.

I did it in word, so if the mods can't recover it I will see if they can fix it for me. I just wanted to see Han's.

So, here's the thing. After waiting for the fix from our site devs, and dropping by and seeing the great mysteries and sadness here (plus the idea that one of the Nexus hackers could break in to the locked thread, lol) - I went ahead and did the restorations by hand.

Let me know if there's further trouble - or if anyone has trouble, a post number or timestamp if you have it would be great. No guarantees, but if it's in the system to be found, I might be able to help some.

Drop me a PM for that stuff, my door's always open. :)

Ok, cheers.

I got my phone at Best Buy this morning. I was there about an hour after they opened and mine was the 4th Nexus they had sold. They got calls about it while I was waiting too and another person came in for one after me. They only had 11 so I'm glad I didn't wait any later!

The only sucky part was that they could not honor my NE2 (even though another salesperson a few weeks ago had said that they could). So I had to pay the full upgrade price of $300. At least I have my new phone in hand now and didn't have to wait for it to be shipped. On the plus side, although VZW wouldn't restore my credit, they did give me one free month of service - which is a whopping $80 in savings.

Oh, and for anyone who might wonder why I didn't just go to a corporate store - I didn't get some money I was expecting this month so I had to finance it on my Best Buy card - 18 months same as cash.

Wow. I feel pretty stupid right now. LOL I just want to unlock the bootloader and nothing is going right.

And I thought I knew my way around computers? LOL

Anyone have a tutorial on attaching photos to posts? Everyone seems to be able to post pictures of a decent size and scale, while mine are way too tiny or just attach as thumbnails. Does everyone play with them in Paint and adjust to a certain dpi or dimension before posting? How's it work?

Thanks.

No rooting for this kid... since I have no bloat and I don't tether, I don't see the need for me personally.

I upload to imgur then post here. You can use photo bucket or any photo host to do the same.

Click the thumbnail attachment, it will pop-up to a decent size.

If happy - right-click the thumbnail and say to show link in new tab or window. Get url from that for larger picture. Sneak back, edit your post and insert it as an image (looks like postcard to me (sun over mountains, actually)) next to quote tool.

I never taught you that trick. ;)

Should the dimensions be re-set to a certain size to be posted here? Is it the pixel dimensions or the file size that matter? Or is it no concern? Just trying to figure out how to get the photo bigger in the post.

And just uploading a jpg from my PC is the same as using a photo host?

Try the mini-SDK from our Nexus root forum - might work.

Anyway - best luck to you all, enjoy your Nexii, I'll see you all around the forums!

Checking in. No Phone yet, but it's on it's way! :)
It's currently on a FedEx truck heading my way from Ontario, Cali
It will be in town later tonight and I'm contemplating going and picking it up from FedEx early in the morning rather that waiting a couple hours for it to be delivered.

I feel like a kid on Christmas eve. lol

There are two basic methods:
- Link to an image hosted somewhere on the interwebz, which is the method Early described for you above. The forum should/might resize automatically, but remember that your jpg image is being downloaded by everyone who looks at your post, so its best to make it a reasonable size. 72dpi and maybe 800px wide is about as big as you want to go.

- You can attach an image file [naughtypic.jpg] from you PC directly. The file is uploaded and is then displayed as part of your post. Use the paperclip icon to attach your image file/s. The max file size for each file format is listed at the bottom of the attach dialog, and that size limit will force you to resize your images to something reasonable before you upload them.

Hope this helps. PM if it doesn't and I'll try to confuse you further ;)

Can't seem to find how to turn off "mobile view" for websites. Anyone know where that option is?

Edit: Nevermind. Found it.
