Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

I like the idea of having the keyboard accessory on the Transformer but that isn't a necessity, I guess a bluetooth keyboard would serve the same purpose. I don't want to put down the chunk of cash required to buy the Transformer Prime, especially with all the wifi and gps issues it has seen recently.

Eddieruko, I think you bring up an excellent point...while you were posting that I was already browsing the 7" tablets that are available. I don't want to go back to an Apple product...their computers are great, but the iPad and iPhones are so locked down I don't want to mess with them anymore. I just looked at the Galaxy Tab 7.0 and the thrive 7" and both seem to fit the mold. I think I would go with the Galaxy just for the fact that the Nexus is a Samsung product as well.

Does anyone know if you can use Google Docs on those? I know I won't be using something like that often, but should the need arise I would love to be able to.

Compusa has a great 17.3in LED w/4GB ram, Phenom II processor and 9 cell battery for like $439. Fairly cheap but pretty powerful. They also have the same DV7 series w/bluray and a Intel I5 model w/6GB ram for 549 I think... its a pretty good deal. I should be ordering mine soon :-)

And honestly if your not looking to do Windows specific things, I'd get a transformer prime with the dock.... my friend had a first Gen transformer with the dock and I'd totally take it over a chromebook... ICS is an amazing tablet platform

I have a Thrive (10"), and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I can plug in a regular SD card (up to 256gb), or just about ANY USB drive and use it! For example, I have a portable 1tb drive that I will sometimes hook up to my Thrive to access files - watch movies, view pics, etc etc. The full size USB is a host USB, so it's easy to simply plug a drive in and access it. There is also full HDMI out, so I can watch movies on my big flat screen. I have, on occasion, hooked up my Thrive to my 25" monitor, connected the BT mouse and the BT keyboard to it, and used it like a regular notebook. Slick as it can be! I honestly couldn't be happier with it! And using Nessie to tether...well, I've got fast internet speeds whenever I need them if I'm not on one of my regular wifi's.

For me, the Thrive is absolutely perfect for me! It streams Netflix, plays HD games, etc. I don't even have mine rooted, but you can do that if desired.

$319 for a 32gb is a great deal for current prices.

Anyway, FWIW, I couldn't recommend the Thrive any stronger than I do. It, along with Nessie, and I've got the cream of the crop setup I think!

p.s. I had an ipad 2, and while ok for some, I got extremely bored with it in 2 months and sold it. MUCH happier with the Thrive!

If 7in is where your heading, then wait for more details on that new ASUS 7in tablet, and the Nexus Tablet... those should be amazing for around $250.

A Bluetooth keyboard just isn't the same as the transformer base.... its amazing.

Definitely a smoother ride. The Xoom already was pretty peppy and I had no complaints about speed or lag to begin with. The only issues I have noticed so far is with a few downloaded apps that are likely not ICS-ready, so I encountered a "wait or FC" pop-up with them. I also had to reload all my album cover art, which took 5 minutes. But overall looks really good.

For as little as I would use the keyboard, I couldn't justify that much money for the transformer base. I thought about waiting to see about the new Asus 7", but Q2 is too far away. I'll be going on night shift at work (where basically I'm the one of about 10 people here whereas there are over 200 in my building during the day and I'll just be here for emergencies on 12 hour shift) in about a month and I would like to have something by then so I can read.

I agree that's a heck of a tablet for that price, but I think they are going to be sacrificing some of the nicities. I notice they only mention a rear camera. No front camera more than likely, like the kindle fire. Probably won't have very many ports either. Just speculation. Looks to me the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is going to fit my needs perfectly.

I had thought about a Chromebook, but they seem too pricey for what they are. Very limited in their capability and I've ready they get extremely slow after a few months of use. Have also considered an Asus Transformer, Kindle Fire (lack of ability to use Google Books and limiting to Amazon kindle books turns me off)... Any suggestions from you guys?

I think the key to your question is the doc creation. I bought the Xoom thinking (unwisely) that it could be a laptop replacement. It's not. A tablet is a great option for a reader or browser, but if you work with documents, it's a royal PITA. Sure, you can type on a tablet, but the physical keyboard is mandatory for convenient copy/cut/paste and better navigation. You NEED those arrow keys and the ability to use them simultaneously with Shift/CTRL/ALT. So I would go with your keyboard-ed ideas.

Yeah, doc creation would be very minimal, but I could see a few times that I would use it. We have a desktop and a capable laptop, the tab would just be a supplement and travel peice.

Running AOKP 19 with Black Exodus theme for the GSM version. Seems to be working and the font is nicer IMHO

I am absolutely amazed at how great my battery life is now that I have AOKP, LeanKernel, and location specific NFC tags controlling the profiles of my phone. I'm sitting at 93% and I have been off the charger since 6AM...just over 5 hours. No longer is my number one use Android OS, but it's the screen and subsequent apps/games. Some would not accept the settings I have to use to accomplish this, but I have no problems with it. If I'm not using my phone, I don't need my data to be on constantly searching for signal at my work place. If I am using it, I can manually turn my data back on. Even with Juice Defender on stock, I would already be around 60% today.

I don't want to mess up your near decision, but the Acer Iconia has nearly the same port features as the Thrive, and I think has a much higher build quality... Prices are pretty close as well.

How are you liking the theme? What stopped me from flashing it so far is that it turns all the cyan white. I kinda like the blue and have my softkeys, weather and battery widgets cyan as well.

I am able to ignore the white icons in my status bar. I will eventually learn how to change them in metamorph but for now I l this theme
 
I tried changing my colors on AOKP and decided to go back to ice blue for all. It just didn't look right with any other color I used.

You had me interested until I went and checked out the reviews and saw comparisons of all the ones I am looking at. Galaxy tab 7 plus has nearly twice the battery life as the Iconia and Thrive 7"ers

i've been doin pretty good w that setup. curious tho... what version of AOKP and LeanKernel are you running?
