Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Good morning folks!

Clean wiped yesterday to JBSourcery 2.2 and it is a DREAM.

Picked up sister-in-law at 1 AM, ending her 4-DAY ride on the Dog from California

She swears she's NEVER going to do that again. I don't blame her.

Waffle House at 2 AM is AWESOME. But I don't think I'll make a habit of it...

Has anyone ordered a Treegloo case before?
I ordered one for my N7 knowing that it'll take some time since it's custom, but I placed it (and was confirmed) on Aug 14th and haven't heard anything from them since. Sent an email this morning looking for an update. Hopefully I hear back soon. :(

Morning all,

I just got back from Sprint HQ for a business trip (sad sad place..) anyways, it's definitely good to be back!

This is going to sound weird but I am really excited for Windows 8 and Windows phone 8. I'm always going to be an Android guy, but I really have to commend Microsoft for all of the hard work and changes it's doing. If you take a look at this video: Cell Phone News - Phone Arena can see how fast it runs, even on a non optimized tablet.. I still have fantasies about Android running Nokia phones ;)

I figured today was the day the invitations go out...I think the future of the iPhone seriously depends on this one. People are starting to realize where the competition is - especially with the windows 8/windows phone 8 coming around the corner. It's a battle of eco systems and innovations.

Google has an advantage here because of maps/gmail/youtube etc - basically the web services king. Not to mention multiple OEM's fueling it's innovations.

Microsoft has the advantage here because it also has multiple OEM's (Nokia being a huge asset), it has a new very connected operating system, and not to mention xbox - the #1 selling console.

Apple really needs to up it's game here. Both Google and Microsoft let you use a lot of their features on multiple platforms which increases adoption rate. Not just that, but they are using a lot of new hardware suppliers this time around thanks to it's recent lawsuits - potential flaws in hardware here. This is also the first iPhone with (hopefully) LTE so hopefully they've done something to work out battery life in a smaller phone. I don't think a 4 inch iPhone will change much aside from adding an extra row of icons. Usability will probably be the same. I do hope the iPhone has NFC. I hate to say it but that's probably the best way to get it spread out. I just hope it's not some crippling proprietary crap...

another interesting way to think about things:

To be in the Apple eco system, you need to spend at least $1200+. $200 iPhone on contract + $1000+ Apple computer.

To be in the Google eco system you need to spend $0.

To be in the Microsoft eco system, you need to spend $0 - $$$ (free phones available, many microsoft services are free and spread out to different platforms)

They will innovate with a 4" screen and 5 rows of apps. Oh. And that new thing called 4G. I've read conflicting reports of NFC. Will be hailed as greatest phone ever made.

I hear NFC is virtually impossible for this release from what I hear. Which puts them about 3 years behind in that game.

No doubt they'll have a new screen size a dub some new name for it and go on and on about how it's the perfect size for every hand and eye, etc...

Really, by far my favorite product launches are Apple. I learn all these new terms that they coin which have nothing to do with anything practical whatsoever. Their 10 minute spills over something as miniscule as ppi and their constant redefinition of it when they can't meet their original definition they came up with the year before.

Geek, why don't you think it won't have NFC? Like Marc said, I really hope it does as it truly will be the only way it's technology and infrastructure will spread.

^As in the article Stig has posted...the back of the new iPhone is metal with a couple of small glass RF windows. These windows simply aren't big enough for an NFC chip and antenna. If it's under the metal, then you most likely won't get the signal outside of the phone casing.

I need to flash to 2.2 as soon as possible.. to be honest, I'm not liking 2.1 much at all. It's extremely laggy. But I'm glad to see that everyone who's got 2.2 is reporting much better performance. I was close to giving up the customizations for another ROM. My phone is nearly unusable right now - everything is taking ages to load or switch around.

Sorry, haven't gotten to the article yet. :o
Wondering why Apple wouldn't want to "invent" something else?
I'm sure they would come out with something similar and just use a different protocol.

They did with MMS hence how iOS devices do Group Messaging - that's just a different MMS protocol.

They are going to do so with Airplay Direct which is Wi-Fi direct, but a specific Apple protocol.

It's ridiculous - just follow the standards.

In other news ordered new headlights and brakes for the car. Going to get it all ready - so excited.

Think I have found my replacement TV. I'm 99% sure right now I'll be getting the Panasonic P50ST50 or the P50GT50. Can't decide if the few extras on the GT are worth it or not. Now to keep an eye out for deals on it.

Meh, TVs just aren't something I'm that into. Got our first flat screen a few years ago, some LG 32". Plenty big for our apartment. If we get a bigger space when we move out, I may look into a new/bigger tv, but don't be the priority.

I'm still on my original Sony rear projection I purchased after graduating and moving into an apartment 5 years ago and it was a closeout display model. The audio module went kaput on it last week so time for a new one. Right now, we're bypassing the TV and going from each input directly to the surround sound, not ideal at all. Much cleaner installation when you just use the optical out on the TV over to the surround processor. Sad when the better TV in your house is the 32" Vizio in your bedroom :P

Auburn football player just called our cowbells annoying. GRRR

If you use BT voice dial, don't be so fast to flash 2.2:

When I am on my A2DP Bluetooth headset, I should be able to press the call button and get a "Speak Now" prompt to voice dial. But on JBSourcery 2.2, I get this:

"Speak Now. Goodbye." Immediately. I have no opportunity to voice dial at all.

This HAS to be a 2.2 issue because it worked on 2.0 and I clean flashed this ROM. I would appreciate validation if someone can duplicate the problem, and identify a potential fix. I may have to nandroid back to 2.0 because I use this feature a lot :(

Even the devs admitted 2.1 was not to their usual standards and thanked everyone for sticking with the ROM. So 2.2 should be awesome as 2.0 was.

Sorry Chief - wish I could help, but I dont use BT dialing. Hope you can find a fix for your issue though!

Yeah, I was reading the JBsourcery thread earlier. Seems like 2.2 is much better - I'll definitely do a clean flash tonight.
