Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

What a bizarre problem my 3-1/2-year old laptop hath developed.

Sound. I get great sound on local media: music, movies... anything stored on the PC has great volume. But stream something? Anything on YouTube? No volume at all. Even turned all the way up. Nothing!

Anyone here ever heard of this, and know a way to cure it? Chief has a van to repair and can ill afford a new laptop right now :(

I had something like this happen the other day, I was streaming a football game and the volume kept dropping down, down, down, until it was gone. Very annoying.

Well Anti, my 3-year SquareTrade warranty expired... well, a year ago so it's over 4 years old!

Still: sounds great for a laptop. I just played a Star Ward movies I had ripped for my Nexus and it played wonderfully. But go to music.google.com? YouTube?

Silent.

EDIT: Further troubleshooting... it's Chrome!

Internet Explorer streams audio out just fine. So it's not the laptop: it's the BROWSER!

Any ideas why Chrome would have blocked streaming audio? I certainly don't remember changing anything... or even seeing a setting that would DO such a thing.

Almost sounds like it's a browser issue. Have you tried in a different browser, or checked out the volume control panel?

Great minds think alike! No sooner had I posted than it dawned on me to try IE. Then YOU posted!

Now to figure out WHY Chrome is a good browser gone bad...

It could be a problem with the flash extention for chrome, since it likes to use it's own built in one instead of the one installed on the partition.

Howdy all, RL has done a little butt kicking for me that last few weeks. Nothing tragic, just kept me away from here. Anyway, I put the Samsung Chromebook on my Christmas wishlist (and told Pam if it was out of range then don't get me anyting, put it towards eventually getting it) so we'll see. Being an old computer geek (my first website was personally approved for listing by the founders of Yahoo, via submission), it was tough to go with something like this. But really looking at what I do with my laptop, I think this is the way to go. I may throw a few hundred at a PC later on for my dev/linux fix, but for 99% of what I do, a chromebook will work.

Maybe, maybe not BB, I just got a few minutes to check in. Thanks to you and Anti for actually remembering me.:p
