Good morning all!
So yesterday my wife walks in crestfallen, and told me she had just lost her month-old iPhone 5. We checked for it on "find my iPhone" and it looked like whoever found it turned it off immediately.
So we made our way to Verizon, and I was sure we would have to pay the early termination fee and start up another contract with another iPhone. It would have saved us a couple of hundred up front instead of buying a new iPhone outright.
What the sales associate suggested we do, though, was to simply open another line with a basic phone for $10 a month. We would get the iPhone on that line, swap it immediately into the lost-phone line, and downgrade the new line to the basic plan. Thankfully we had an old basic flip phone at home, so it wasn't a problem.
So we have to pay an extra $10 per month for the next 2 years, but it could have been worse.
I asked if we could do the same thing again once I needed a new phone, so that I wouldn't lose my unlimited data, and he said it would be no problem.... So now my Nexy doesn't have to plan on living for the next ten years.
And yes, we got the insurance on her phone this time.
