Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Apple used to provide far more than they do now. They stopped as soon as people became dependent fans.

As far as Google _having_ to be like Apple when it's been the opposite business model that has Android alone out-earning Apple's app store for over a year now and as far as any walled garden being enjoyable in any way, at any time, and for any reason, I think that you and I are going to have to agree to disagree. :)

Well, I was being cautiously optimistic, Early. You and I agree that Android is successful because it IS open... and I join you in hoping that it STAYS that way. :)

Yeah, I mentioned yesterday that I was seething over it. :o

I probably ought not post much when I get that way.

Ok, here's my penance.

So, my daughter upgraded her DX to an iPhone 4s, and my granddaughter, another proud DX owner until it got bathed and dropped, just earned herself an iPhone 4 replacement (can't beat free upgrades).

And they showed them to me. My first question? How's your coverage? My last question - How's your coverage?

My granddaughter and I have discussed the various iOS/Android differences, it's fascinated her.

The night she got her new iPhone (just the other day in fact) - we were watching the TV and this came on:

I howled like a monkey.

Yeah, I've seen em all. Doesn't really bother me. Microsoft is really drawing their last straws at this point. Well, they've finally made one accomplishment: they have a greater mobile OS market share than RIM! At an amazing 3%.

Does anyone remember the supposed new policy of paying for your new phone over 12 months? And the possibility that you would keep your unlimited data? Did that policy ever take affect and do you keep your unlimited data that way? Someone at work was asking about the S4 and they want to keep their unlimited data and I told them about the 12 month policy.

So, am I the only one to cry foul here? What if I pay outright? Do I get a discount on my bill.... NO .

So let me get this straight...
1 . I can get a subsidized phone and pay say.. $100/mo. (For easy addition)

2 . I can pay full price, out right and pay $100/mo

3 . I can pay "financed" and pay ... an extra $60/mo =$160/ mo

Seems to me, the people who pay outright are screwed. There is no real benefit to the people who fork out the cash in advance. We are actually paying the same as the subsidized people....

Shame on you Verizon!

Come on , we are not dumb!

Rant is over sorry....

I completely agree. Unfortunately, they have us, with unlimited, on a leash - to put it mildly.

I already have it planned when I go get my next phone to point this out and to say it loud enough so everyone hears. It will be pointless, I know. But at least it will be said.

There should be 2 categories of phone ownership.

#1 ignorant people that just want something cool

#2 phandroid junkies that understand we are getting ripped off!

I always say "don't take advantage of old people or children"

The phone world should absolutely be," those who are educated in phone plans and those who aren't. "

Hey friends, what do you all use for SMS backup when you flash new ROMs, etc? I don't want to lose my texts when switching to my new phone.

SMS Backup and Restore does it for me. Titanium has the option too. Menu -> Backup Data to xml -> Messages.
I completely forgot about that feature, thanks.

A few more questions which I would greatly appreciate assistance with:

1) If this will be my TiBu backup that gets moved to a new phone, should I pick "backup user apps + system data"?

2) What's the easiest guide for rooting on a Mac these days?

3) They sent me a new SIM card for my new phone as well, but do I need to use it? What would be the difference between using the new one and my current one?

Sup Razor,

If I was you I'd do this:

1) Backup user apps, call log (also an XML file) and Messages, which you've already done.

2) Since you are nandroiding, if I remember correctly, no need to backup system anything. And if your nandroid goes to heck for any reason, at least you can clean flash something and restore apps, Call log and Messages.

Sim card: Use the one from your previous device. If it goes belly up, you've got a backup.

Hope that helps.

Thanks a ton jmar. The reason that I was asking for #2 is because I'll have to root the new phone. Also, I don't think I'll be making a nandroid - I think I'd like to go back to JBsourcery. I miss the customizations!

Taken by the guy at Champs that is traveling across country, ocean to ocean. Was in military and decided to travel across country with his friend who passed away and still decided to do it alone. Really nice guy. He only had some simple traveling food and wanted to go to Sheetz so I took him. Best of luck to him. If you are on Twitter...@McHrebin

This guy is accepting no rides from town to town. I would love to see support for this guy to spread and to be known.

Me, btw.
