Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

*Sad trombone* $199 on contract?? Why would I do that when I could get the HTC One or the S4? Amoled display too :(

With a $199 pricetag on contract, I wouldn't expect anything less than $599

Maybe, maybe not. $700 flagship on contract for $299. $499 Moto X with a ton of hype for $199. People flocking to it like sheeple as they did for the OG Droid. Carriers are only eating $300 instead of $500 and the sheeple think they are getting a deal.

Just a hypothetical, but these are US carriers we are talking about.

Also I wonder where the rumor for immediate release came from...

The Moto X will be available in late August / early September on Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and other. Suggested retails is $200 for the 16GB version or $250 for the 32GB version, though carriers may discount as they will. There will also be an unlocked version coming to the Play Store, though pricing has not yet been announced for that."

And how many of us VZW people are on the OG Droid --> Razr / RazrMaxx / GNex upgrade timeline that puts this right in our wheelhouse? That is why I can see Verizon pulling shenanigans on the contract pricing.

I don't think I'll be buying this phone. 2,200 mah NON-REMOVABLE battery with a screen the same size and same technology as the Gnex. We all know what a battery hog the screen can be on this thing and the Moto X will have roughly the same size battery as the GNex extended battery.

I am OG Droid > Nexus > ???

Still waiting - 4.3 breathed some new life into the GNex so I can wait a bit longer. Gotta buy off contract anyway to keep unlimited data.

P3Droid...FYI off contract is 575/630 16/32 GB

No source, just his words.

NOT what I was looking for. Back to square one.

The device will be much more efficient so battery life will be a lot better. My Nexus 4 has the same size battery as the VZW Gnex extended and I get more than double the screen time.

If that thing lasts 24 hours or anywhere close...I'll eat my words, but time will tell when testers get them.

This is from the article I linked above. One of I'm sure many battery saving tweaks.

A second touchless feature is what Motorola calls Active Display, a low-energy consumption system that provides notifications

Honestly...the final selling point for me will be the camera. I honestly like the HTC One's camera better than any other on the market. Knowing a bit about cameras and being somewhat of a photog, it's pixel quality and not quantity that counts, and that's what HTC went for. Others are still pushing those double digit MP sensors that means nothing. I've printed a 20" x 30" print from an 8MP camera with no pixelation. A 4MP camera done right will allow for prints up to an 8" x 10" (that's 223 PPI).

Regarding the battery life:
I understand the computing architecture and what they're doing with it. They're minimizing full power processor usage by offloading low CPU usage task to really low powered chips. They're also minimizing the amount of screen space that is powered up with the active display that allows for notifications without waking the phone or turning on the entire screen. But that won't change much in regards to real screen on time. It should GREATLY increase standby time, which should be good enough for me. If they could demonstrate 3-4 hours of solid screen on time, I'd probably be very interested. The GNEX barely ever got me 2 hours of screen on. With inital screen on usage out of the box at 3-4 hours, that should still give a good 2 hours at the end of your 2 year contract.
