Help GALAXY S 2 simple doesn't work

Amfly

Lurker
Ok, so not long ago(2 hours) I firstly updated my kies program. after that, it said it's recomended to update my galaxy s 2 aswell(galaxy s 2 was connected to the computer).
I pressed ok and it started to update... after a few minutes, my computer restarted while on the actual phone there was a sign saying:
"DOWNLOADING! do not turn phone off!"
But the phone didn't do anything so i turned it off and back on and now it won't work...
the only thing that shows on the phone when u turn it on is a phone with 2 dots to dots and then a sign ward(!) and then 2 dots and then a pc icon.
looks like this:phone..!!..pc
what should I do? conneting the phone to the computer doesn't work as kies can't recognize it...
please answer quickly, I need my phone working in 5 hours...
thanks in advance...

You did exactly what it told you not to, why?! The instructions are clear :(

The updates take time.. mine seemed to hang for about five minutes but I just left it. For future reference, leave it alone while it's updating.

I've never had to restore the phone so can't really assist but I'm sure somebody will be able to. Just hang tight.

Okay I've just googled how to emergency restore, and apparently if you enter "download mode" Kies should recognise the phone.

Start up the phone by holding the power button, volume down and the home button all at the same time. This should boot the phone into download mode. Then Kies should recognise it, and you should be able to use the emergency restore feature.

Give it a go.

I go to that menu where I need to chose either up or down volume button. I press the up button and it saying downloading.... DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
and it doesn't do anything. I let it be for 1 hour and it didn't do anything... what to do now?

it doesn't work ffs... it says "low battery!! can't download!1" at top left with red letters and then I can't go into download mode.... all night it was plugged to the recharged... what should I do now?

DONE! WORKING! thank you all!
Glad it worked out and you have your awesome phone back. If you want to thank Hawker hit the thank you button beside his name. If he gets enough thanks candy will spill from his USB ports.

i have the same problem,, but unfortunately i have some data on the usb storage and i need to get it before reinstalling the firmware.. please help me :)

You can purchase a USB dongle that you can insert your micro SD into and then mount on any computer. I got mine from staples.CA

If it is the internal storage you can mount that from recovery and Windows should see it.

its the internal storage, how can i do that recovery knowing that kies fails to connect,, thanks a lot

Hey
Just got a S2, after all the hype, thought I had to at least try. Very mixed feelings.
As a yuppie phone its probably got a lot of cred. but as a business phone, I think it sucks.
1. What smart phone today can't work work with windows? It cant' sync correctly with outlook, calendar, contacts, etc.
2. Try and sync with Microsoft Exchange for corporate e-mails, a joke. Every time it has to refresh the mail, do that with 500 plus e-mails every 5 mins? Costs through the roof!!!
3. Kies, Well really does Samsung think this can compare with Blackberry desktop? its another joke. And yes I am running the latest Kies, PC windows 7 64bit, another issue.
4. Firmware update. Well if anybodys phone can survive one of these, without going against the wall....
5. Windows 7 64bit compatability, lets not even go there.
6. Battery life. well if you have a charger at home, in the car, at the office, and a solar unit, maybe you will get through a day.

From what I can see on the net, my issues are not isolated, and have been going on for a long, time. This is not the service one expects from a "market leade".

Funny enough, my son has an HTC, and has none of these issues, so my thinking is its not Android, which by the way, I think is the future, but rather Samsung, IMO.

I have Blackberry, currently the torch, and from a business phone point of view, Samsung have a LOT to learn.

I would like to resolve these issues, as I gues would every S2 owner.

As for Kies, you need to do some settings on the Sync option: after that, the Sync happens as good as any business phone would do. Please remember to disable or close other Sync Programs running in the back-ground before installing Kies: it is a one-time, first-time issue and ironically, no one at the support centre in Samsung will be able to help you out.

I've had several top end HTCs and the battery life on all of them was cack compared to the S2 which I can just get a day out of - I do have a desk charger that I use with heavy use but thats no different to any phone to be fair..

Out of all the phones I've had the S2 tops them and I believe the majority of people are happy. If you read forums, thats the place to go when you have a problem so what do you expect to find?

If you do a quick bit of searching you can get it syncing ok and answers to above. I use mine for personal and company emails ok.

Kies is pants tho. I've used it once and then went to using ODIN. FW updates can be nerve wracking But if you follow the instructions its ok.

Hey Amfly, im having the same exact problem. How did you get it into download mode. I get red letters saying "low battery!! Cant download !!" Please anything will help as the same thing happened to me with kies on my gs2. Any advice would help.

Ty for reply. I had to take battery out. Hold for 60 sec. I did this 3 times before I could get enough juice for the triangle sign. Then I got into download mode. Flashed new kernel. (Recovery by agat) then installed venom rom. In case any one is in same situation. I was sure it was a hard brick. Not powering on. Blue light of death and days away from a JTAG to restore. But I saved it thanks to this forum and patience. Thank you for you're reply so quickly :)

Hi,
i got the same issue. My phone doesnt get into the download modus by saying that the battery status is to low. I charged it over the hole night but it seems that the battery hasnt charged a bit. Does anyone has an idea how to overcome this issue?
Best regards

Ok. I bought a new batterie. Now i can get into the download menue again. But now a at least i think a more difficult probleme has occured. I tried to flash the phone using odin3 with several releases and several pda files (firmware releases) but none seems to work. The process allways stucks in cache.img. Anyone got a clue?
