Galaxy S ~ Froyo Update

Beards

Android Expert
At a press conference in New Delhi, the VP of marketing made a comment that galaxy s won't be updated to Android 2.2
Comments made were as followed:-

UPDATE: The Galaxy S won

Ugh... I hate this. They better do something in the next month or I'm not going to get this.

This is really crap.. From what i found on hardwarezone:
Guys.....relax lah..this is just simple fearmongering.

Samsung not that stupid...this isn't their first Android phone. Spica had the ability just fine. Hack.....almost all their phones from the past 2 years can update firmware. They're not ******ed to make the GS so special.

You guys trust a Marketing manager in India? or you prefer to wait for more concrete news? Don't go crazy over such rumors until it holds more water.
Exactly my thoughts!

Is this Twitter account really run by a Samsung rep?

SamsungFirmwares (SamsungFirmware) on Twitter

They first tweeted this:
Great news the update about android 2.2 for Galaxy S is fake! It will come. Today we send Samsung again a mail about android updates.

From that tweet, it sounded like a fake Samsung twitter account already. Why send a email to Samsung when you are Samsung?

Then they retweeted this:
RT @cellpassion: Samsung Galaxy S froyo update: current devices will run 2.1, new stocks at a later date will come with Android 2.2.

I don't know what to believe really. Hopefully Samsung releases some concrete info about Froyo at the press conference.

Looks like we have two choices:

1. Trust Samsung to upgrade the phone.

2. Wait until the phone releases with 2.2 before buying.

I haven't decided on my choice.

Or choice 3: Just decide you can be happy with 2.1, I mean it doesn't need apps2sd, and has landscape rotation in both directions, bluetooth voice dialling, and WiFi tether anyways...

im from India and i wanted to buy the phone today, while i was on my way to the store i read this tweet on my current phone,as you would expect i dropped my plans. Now im really wondering if i should worry so much about this phone getting a 2.2 update ,might as well go in for the desire, and save me the indecision.
either way im going to jail because im going to kill the stupid bas***d who tweeted this .

I just watched SlashGear's unbox of the Galaxy S and he said that Adobe will release the 10.1 flash update.
Does this mean that when it get release even Android 2.1 can show Flash content?

Is it available in stores in India? Where? Which store?

^^ I'm hearing about a next week availability for Galaxy S in stores.. The launch event happened on 16th at New Delhi :)

yeah it's available in bangalore on monday ,and it has already been released in new delhi,it's priced at rs.30,500.About other states i really don't know

im buying it regardless of whether it will be upgradeable or not,for me the screen size and processor are full of win.And also there are always ways to upgrade it later,im getting it on Monday,And also guys i never saw a screenshot of this phone running any app from the android store,id be grateful if any of you would direct me a pic or vid.

Galaxy S will definitely be upgraded to 2.2. I'm just coming off chat with representatives from Samsung Sweden and they said a 2.2 upgrade is guaranteed, but there's no official date for it yet.

Release does not imply its available in market! Its not in stock in any store in Delhi as of yet.. Official MRP is 31.5k.. Should be lower when it retails..

That's no proof at all. All it is, is that there the phone is running hardware which the current OS doesn't support, there is a fix, but whether Samsung go with it or not is another question.

If they had no intention of updating, why would they waste money putting in extra ram when they could just use 256, charge the same, and increase their profit?
