Galaxy S II

I know this is off-topic but does anyone know if there are any ROMs available for the S II? The closest specialized forum I could find was the for the Sprint version, which I guess is close enough?

Would appreciate if anyone has any information seeing as how it's $399 for Black Friday/Cyber Monday

Its not close enough its the same phone, sprint sent the S II down to boostmobile now to virginmobile.

So would flashing a ROM for the Sprint S II work?

I wouldn't do it. You need certain things that will make the VM specific things work. Mainly in the text message area. The rooting stuff should work, although, sence they were making a VM ROM, they may have plugged up holes that allowed the older ROMs to be rooted. I would wait if it were me. Let someone else see how hard it is to root it first.

just as dsmryder said i wouldn't do it either even though its the same model as the sprint im sure virginmbile tweaked some area's to make sprint roms not work on vm just wait till they start making roms for the vm model. if im not mistaking it should be the same as the htc evo v 4g, how sprint sent down the htc evo 3d and devs started making roms for it.

Samsung isn't trying to plug rooting and ROM flashing because they don't like development efforts like this. They are simply trying to make the phone more secure. So, I don't have a problem with that.

Anyway, here's the link to the new S2 4G thread; already one "don't be this guy" attempt at flashing CWM. The other rooting attempt was successful, but the phone now thinks it's a Sprint.

Edit: 11/25/2012 - Some claiming a successful root and recovery installation has been found.

I'm going to wait, until I can cross a bridge without burning it behind me.

It's exactly the same as what happened with the Evo 3D (Sprint) and the Evo V 4G (VM). It's the exact same phone with different firmware. On the Evo V 4G Sprint ROMs worked, but it broke MMS because VM handles MMS differently than Sprint. Everything else worked just fine. If that's the case with the GSII then you should be fine if you can do without MMS.

I had the Evo and that was only the case if you changed radios and "converted" your evo v into the evo 3d.
