Galaxy S2 confirmed for Verizon

Short answer (rare for me :D):

The Pentile display, combined with so-so color/contrast made it painfully mediocre. The increased resolution also scaled down standard resources, so the details on smaller screen objects becomes very important.

Locked bootloader, so no replacing/removing Blur (even with LP/ADW services are still running). I'm talking about being able to run different kernels (and more), not just swapping out resources like taskbar backgrounds.

The Camera was very disappointing, mainly due to the really poor software, thought he optics weren't much either.

It was fast, had terrific battery life, the HDMI out was slick, good form factor, good GPS, but at the end of the day, I didn't think the cost and contract extension was worth it - it wasn't "better enough" vs. the Captivate.

FWIW, at this point, based on the reviews to date, the SGS II +does+ appear to be better across the board (display, performance, battery, GPS ... and I'm assuming the bootloader won't be an issue either ... )

(OK, so that wasn't quite as short as I intended :D )

The exact same reasons I returned the Atrix. Back on my N1 till the SGS2 on att

Cheap phone off ebay is an option to replace your broken phone. That should allow you to buy a phone on your terms instead of settling for what's out there now.

I simply cannot wait. My phone is breaking and I have to make a choice ASAP. Trying to hold out for a phone but no way I can make it to a SGII US Variant... but thank you for explaining the technology. ;)

I really want to wait for the S2 on Sprint. I just don't have a lot of cash to throw around in the meantime and my Palm Pre is not going to make it much longer.

I don't know what to do. I don't want to settle... but the S2 has no release date. I hear "Fall", but I suspect a Winter release.

Unless I can find a cheap Refurbish Smartphone to use until the S2 I'll probably be forced to get an Evo3D. The Evo3D is a very nice phone, don't get me wrong. It's just a small margin behind the S2 in my opinion.

Now, if Samsung comes out and says "S2 coming in July/Aug"... I can probably hold out. Any later than August is out of the question.

That's just my personal situation, so, sorry for going on and on.

I'm in the same situation. If it's not announced by June 1st, I'm going for the Droid X2 I guess... It's a bummer, but Verizon offers sh** phones, so I might as well get the best one so far... considering, of course, the X2 is out by then.

Fricken Verizon.

the international version that the rest of the world has does have an unlocked bootloader. dunno much about the us ver but after samsung sent the cm devs free galaxy s2s, i think they are supportive of the dev community

The good thing about this is the phone will get reviewed all over again but with the newer firmwares.

I wonder if they will ship them with 2.3.4? Maybe we will finally get a review from Anandtech. :D

I don't see why people think it will be released on august 29. It says, as clear as day, that an announcement will be made that day. So I believe that Samsung will do nothing more than announce/confirm the US release and provide a prospective release date.

ARGGG. I just got a samsung droid charge. Still within the 14 day period for verizon. And it is from amazon wireless, which itself has a 30 day window for returns.

What should I do? Don't have a backup smartphone to use.

Wish they would just announce the release date.

Do what I did last month when my Eris died. I bought a phone on ebay for $70.00. Now I can hold out for as long as it takes for them to release the sg2.

I did the same thing when my Droid1 broke. Bought an incredible off craigslist.

Yeppers. This is good advice. It's worth some waiting, patience, and even a little money now to be able to soon have a phone you REALLY want instead of settling now for a phone you only sort of want/tolerate.
