Galaxy S2 is coming to Verizon with LTE in May. ChargeDOA?

Just spoke to a prominent android reviewer who said there's no way SGS2 comes with LTE. I sort of agree with him.

Plus if Bionic was really scrapped due to Tegra2 not playing well with the LTE that means Samsung will either release a 3G version with Tegra2 or Exynos with possibly LTE. And the article I read on SGS2 soc production indicated Tegra2 would be used.foe the North American version.

Well see. But I would jump on it if it came with LTE.

Bing on Verizon.
No one in their right mind would willingly use Bing. Apparently Microsoft pays Verizon to have a phone exclusively use Bing.

Oh learned a new term. So many nicknames to kepe up with....Samsuck, craporoloa, etc etc

Now Berizon...cute

lol well I am an HTC HD7 owner and I use bing on my phone(even though Tmobile locked Google in by default) I actually like using bing. It is more visually appealing than google(i still use it) and probably will do so once I come back to android.

I wouldn't consider comment like his as reliable source at all. He doesn't have any insider info from samsung and anyone following IT news can make speculations like that. Also there are number of reasons that U.S SGSII will have Exynos, not Tegra2, but I wouldn't go into all that.

I think Droid Charge just stopgap phone until they bring out SGSII on Verizon. There will be about 3~4 months between two, so there won't be much overlap problem.

Great info. Maybe Ill get a charge on a one year contract and upgrade in 10 months. Not sure I can hold out 6 months for the s2. Did the charge have the matte finish shown in the latest pictures or was it glossy?

There are no more 1 year contracts or annual upgrades. If you still have an annual upgrade or Ne2 from current contract, you can use it 1 more time however.

Thoughts?

I live in Austin now, which is in the middle of a bunch of areas with LTE (areas I travel to, stay a few days at a time, using my phone constantly, for about half of every month). I have no home internet (running off my TMO Tether, which just got throttled..hence the reason for the jump to another carrier that offers truly unlimited..no throttle..yet?) and will be using the phone as a tether at home the other half of the month.

Don't necessarily need all the bells and whistles, but the LTE (or 4G equivalent) I do need.

Also..side note...anyone here have experience with Sprints' version of 4G in the Austin TX area?

Thanks in advance -

Perhaps chose neither. The LG Revolution has several advantages over those devices:

1. 16gb built in flash and a micro sd slot
2. Voice over LTE
3. Dedicated video chip to help the HDMI
4. IPS display is on par with features of samoled on the Sammy
5. Built-in Netflix and no near worthless bloatware Blockbuster app.

Netflix is based on the OEM and paying to have their device approved for Netflix servers. It was a futile effort when folks were trying to get the leaked Netflix app working a few months ago- it will not work because only the Revolution is approved for Netflix servers.

IF they specs hold up for the Revolution, it is the best bet out of a group, but a dual core would have been better.

BTW, the SG2 is a loooong way from launch on VZW. Probably late summer at best. The Charge is DOA as noted above, due to the $300 two year contract price on mid-level hardware. I guess VZW was offered a REALLY good deal for the Hummingbird, considering it is end of life, in chipset land.

Yes, I have mentioned the Rev in several threads, but seems folks do not know it exists and will launch soon (probably May).

Thanks for the reply - I won't be able to check out the LG Revolution online till later tonight...that's not out yet is it? I've got an issue - need to have whatever the new device is pretty fast (within a week).

Options right now are the TB that has battery issues and 4GB that was killed, or the Charge with no built in internal storage and an almost 18 month old chipset.

Specwise, the Revolution spanks them both.

Plus the Revolution could have amazing battery life.due to the ips screen and good power management. We dont know yet though. If LG launches it without any skin and stock Android and unlocked bootloader, it might be a competitive offering.

Honestly pre loaded gingerbread is looking to be a requirement of my next phone. Don't trust carriers /mfgrs anymore to update in time.

Ha I had a dream that the Revolution was released and it was awesome. Bummer it was a dream...I'm throttled and going crazy here. I've not been able to find a way around the throttle outside dumping TMO. UGH

I don't think Charge's pricing will remain at 300 for long. It will come down to 200 or less fairly quick like Original Droid and Fascinate did. The hummingbird in it is likely a little faster one around 1.2GHz with smaller feature size than last year.

My best guess for the SGS2 on Berizon is September. :p They have too many inferior tech single core devices to sell through. I understand that many of them are still decent phones, but they don't have a competitive roadmap this year in the least. It would be nice to see the Revolution in May, but keep in mind how long AT&T has already had a dual core device with enough power to run a webtop application.

With the Charge due possibly in a few days, I just don't see Berizon releasing the SGS2 anytime soon. Sometimes I really wish someone ELSE had the best network so that Berizon would actually have to compete with hardware. Oh well. At least the network is solid.

interesting reading this thread 6 weeks later. charge is $249 with 32 gb card. costco has 120 off for this month starting in 4 days, so it is now 120. pretty good deal.

Except the Charge is simply a Fascinate with an FFC, nicer screen, and LTE.

Meaning, it has many of the problems (allegedly, from talking to people in IRC) that the Fascinate had--LAG, faulty GPS--UNLESS you root and mod it.

It's a nice phone, I just wish it came with GB, had 1 GB RAM, and had the EXT4 file system by default.
