Galaxy S2 storage confusing me....

Ok I am getting confused... I have 11+ gigs available in my usb storage and 29+ gigs available on my sd card....ok under Settings/applications/manage applications, you have 4 tabs on top; downloaded - All - On SD card - Running. When you tap on 'On SD Card' on the bottom in says USB storage 11gb free,,,, and when I tap on one of the apps there is an option to move app to sd card... Did the 'On SD card' tab on top mean to say 'On USB storage'... This is on the galaxy s2 by the way... I know it is not the sd card but it why say 'On SD card'?

Ok, the storage is split up, 2GB for applications which acts as your internal storage and the rest(11.50GB for 16GB version) is classed as your sdcard or USB storage. When you install or move an application to the sdcard you are moving it to that 11.50GB partition.

I know it gets a bit confusing, especially with your internal storage is labeled as USB storage.

Ok that clears it up a bit... But if you go to settings/applications/manage applications and tap on the 'On SD card' which contains 2 apps on my phone; Netflix and Movies. On the bottom it says that I have used 69MB out of 11GB. So I am assuming 'On SD card' is referring to the 'USB Storage'... When I click on one of the apps it has an option to Move to SD card which you say is the internal USB storage... So why would it have that option if it is already in the USB storage? Or is that option going to move it to my 32 gb pny microsd card?

EDIT: Confirmed it does copy to the external sdcard, for some applications it works but for some like Gameloft and EA games it doesnt copy the game data you download aftr installing the apk.

Shocky's post reminds me that many apps will not be moved in their entirety, either. You'll often see a small amount of internal storage still being used; this is due to OS requirements.

Shocky, I have a nexus one and I've never had one of these internal SD's so I was hoping you could confirm the similarities with the internal SD vs. the external SD on my Nexus one.

When I install to SD on the Nexus 1, when its permitted, it installs part of the app to the base internal memory and the rest to the SD. My questions regarding installing to the internal SD on the GS2 are:
.
1. Are there restrictions? Does it only allow certain apps to be installed to the internal SD as defined by the developer?

2. Does it still install a part, sometimes a large part, to the base internal memory and the remainder to the internal SD? Or does it install the whole app to the internal SD?

3. Do apps that use widgets still have issues installing to the SD? If you install to the SD does it crash those apps installed to the internal SD if the internal drive is mounted by connecting to a PC?
.

Many thanks for your help on this:)

Well first I was wrong when I said it installs the apps to the internal sd card when you select copy to sdcard, it copys them to the external sd card, maybe it copys to internal sdcard when you don't have an external card installed. "shrugs"

1. I'm pretty sure it depends if the application supports it, so thats down to the developer.

2. The application or apk once installed wll goto your base internal storage, if the application downloads content after the installation that will in most cases will goto your internal sd card. if you copy that application or game to the sd card it will move some files from the core internal storage to the external sd card.

3. Unsure, I wasnt aware there were any problems with widgets and apps to sd.

I hope some of this makes sense. :D

I thing is i've never owned an Android phone where I've needed to copy applications to the sd card, as all i've used is the SGS and SGS2, so I might be wrong.
