galaxy s2

firstly, i am a super novice with forums and smartphones, but before i go further, can i ask about rooting on this forum and particular thread

my galaxy s2 sch-r760 is from ntelos. are t-mobile phones the same? could not find a thread on my particular model. just checking so that i can root and be happy. want to add tips as i learn and hoping to stay on forum for quite some time. steve

That's strange. When I went to US Cellular to look up your phone they listed it as a CDMA version of the S2. t-mobile doen't use CDMA phones. Samsung Galaxy S II Silver. Actually this is a link to the ntelos site. Where the heck did I get US cellular from? :o
jumped the gun and went to link you sent me and did what was instructed. my phone is in download mode, with the little green droid on screen. up top, it reads the following: odin mode (in red); product name: sch-r760; custom binary download: yes (1 count); Current binary: samsung official.

it has been on this downloading screen for at least an hour now.

Hi urantia :hello: what have you done so far? Did you install the clockwork tar file explained in this thread?

urantia, I moved your 2 threads to the All Things Root forum and merged them.

Since you have the ntelos phone, I'm not 100% sure but I think you should be following this guide to root. It is for the non-us cellular CDMA phone. Unfortunately all the links are dead I think. You might look through the thread and see if someone else mirrored the files.

thanks, atma for your reply. i simply went to the aforementioned link and went to town so to speak. found out later that my ntelos phone is cdma which differentiates it from u.s. cellular (both share same model gs2 @ sch-r760) no, i did not download the clockwork tar. the phone keeps wanting to boot, so i have to take battery out to stop it from the incessant booting loop. may take to ntelos tom. and forget about rooting this phone, much to my shagrin. xda was the link i went to, to get odin and kernal package. hope i can get this phone to its original state, just for know, since i need to communicate. thanks, steven

downloaded from link at xda, package of uscc rooting. followed instructions and loaded phone with cwm using odin, one-click for fb14 kernel. hope phone is not bricked. my phone screen, when connected to pc reads: odin mode (in red) and the android icon reading, "downloading... do not turn off target. phone will not reboot for full operation: it just keeps looping on reboot, but never to the state where my os is functioning.

"downloading... do not turn off target" It sounds like you're in Odin download mode, which is not a bad thing. If you can get there you can fix your phone, usually. You just need to find the right stock rom .tar file for your phone and install it with Odin. I don't know anything about your phone and I'm not sure where to get the stock. I looked on sammobile firmware but it isn't listed. Are you sure you have the fb14 kernel?

not positive about the kernal but my girlfriend has same phone. can i look at hers to determind what i need. at least my gs2 has hope. thanks again, atma. i am afraid to take it to ntelos

i think i have the ff-24 kernel. had jellybean os. the stock rom zip is hard to find. the phone is still in "Odin" mode. thanks, steven
