Help galaxy s3 com.android.browser force close

Help!
Been running my s3 faultlessly for a year but in the last few days I've been having the following problem.
Whenever I try to download a movie or PDF on my stock browser the screen goes black, returns to the home screen and displays "com.android.browser has stopped force close".
Never had an issue before and am not aware of any updates recently.
I'm not overly technical but fairly savvy, any advice please?

Go into menu, settings, manage apps, browser and clear the cache. That's usually first step if something is force closing. Give it a go and let us know if it doesn't work.

Hi Extreme Nerd,
Thanks for the reply but I've tried that with no joy (so bloody annoying).
I've run through the apps and google apps and cleared cache and data but nothing works.
Not sure if it's related but I did "okay" an update from Samsung push recently (I hadn't tried any downloads immediately after so not sure whether it's the cause).
I don't really want to do a hard reset cos a, I don't know how and b, I just know I'll lose all my video, pictures, ring tones etc as I don't know how to back and restore (old bloke really).
Any other suggestions greatly received.

i know its not a cure but have you tried a different browser from Play Store mate? (Firefox, Chrome, Dolphin etc)

Thanks for all the advice guys, I opted to use the back up/restore and reset the phone.
All working fine now so must have downloaded something it didn't like.

FYI, it is recommended with any major/minor OS update to do a factory reset to clear old files that are still left from the old OS. Like a clean install on a PC as opposed to a upgrade. I was having problems with mine till the Factory Reset.
