Galaxy S3 Watering Hole

Just finished reading the reviews on The Verge. The camera samples of stock vs TW/Sense are pretty incredible. Have to say the stock images are considerably worse.

If the kernel is that of HTC/Samsung as opposed to that of Google (i.e. Nexus devices), who is to say that the updates will truly come straight from Google?

In order for a phone to be updated in the Nexus fashion, CDMA GNexi aside, it must come from Google, and is to have never been looked at by an OEM or carrier. Sounds like the OEMs will be involved to a certain degree.

Am I saying that these devices won't get Android 4.3/5.0 in a timely fashion? No. But I wouldn't count on these "Experience" devices to be treated as Nexi. Just look at the Xoom.

Nevertheless, we have been waiting for flagship devices to ship with the Nexus treatment, and this is about as close as it gets.

The private parts could easily be kernel modules provided by HTC and Samsung to Google. Both publish the non-proprietary parts of their source code. It's open source, after all.

Who's to say?

The players involved. :)

After the blogosphere announced that the sky was falling, I'd be thoroughly surprised if they don't make statements today.

Btw - from

http://www.anandtech.com/show/7107/...s-4-google-play-edition-review-nearly-nexus/2

Referring to the kernel -

"The result is that ultimately the OEMs are in fact responsible for updating these Google Play experience phones through successive Android releases, but through Google's infrastructure."

Watch for blogosphere to backtrack while saying that they weren't really wrong (when they were).

That's my prediction for today.

Morning kids! I semi read back - I admittedly skimmed most of the phone talk. :D
Seeing the temps some of you will be experiencing today makes my 86

If it's a brand new phone they sometimes won't sell it out right

There's limited stock and they'd rather sell it to those who will be on contract

To the rescue of my overheated friends here

Ordered one of those USB phone charger sticks. A mycharge or something. 2000mh thing just to try it since work place is brutal on the battery.
