Root Galaxy/Stock android on behold 2 - It flies!

I'm trying to redo flash but I'm getting a permission denied.

you mean with ODIN? you have to put the phone in download mode first. Turn it off, plug it into the computer, then hold Volume down, Center Button, and then Power (in that order, and all three) until the screen comes up "Download Mode". Then start Flash from ODIN.

No sorry I mean trying to port galaxy back on the behold ... this will be my 2nd attempt

I had to ODIN yesterday because I was getting a bunch of force closes.

SUGGESTION! When you plug in your original Behold 2 Phone to the computer through USB... WAIT UNTIL THE SCREEN GOES TO SLEEP! I've noticed that if you do ADB SHELL in... when the screen goes to sleep it resets the usb so it takes you out of shell and back to prompt which will mess you up if you're inputting the code.

Reset phone
Plug in through USB and WAIT FOR SCREEN TO SLEEP
then do ADB SHELL all the commands necessary and when done reboot the phone
Once it starts up, YOU WILL GET FORCE CLOSES, just do another FACTORY RESET and when it starts up it'll work just fine with no more FC's at all.

I'm trying to redo flash but I'm getting ... sdcard/try3: permission denied.

When you are inputting commands is there a $ or a # next to your cursor?

Seems to be a permission issue that you aren't root....

If it's a $ run:
cat /sdcard/try3 > /data/local/try3
chmod 777 /data/local/try3
/data/local/try3 /system/bin/sh

Damn i think I bricked my phone,

I tried to ODIN back to Behold default and it stopped downloading midway thru and now when I turn my phone on it stays on a white screen with download on it. I tried master reset and nothing works.

Is there a fix?

I've not yet seen this... but if it still says "download" on it... you SHOULD be able to get it to sync with odin... Try pulling the battery to reset and replug the cable, booting into download mode, and running ODIN again.

NOTE: If you are a noob, do no, and I mean DO NOT ask any questions about this post, cus its not meant for you. sorry, have a nice day :p

To the more proficient hackers, I've been playing with the kernel source from Samsung, this is what I got so far, and not much. I though I'd try to see if I could use their script to build the kernel, but I run into some roadblocks.

And of course I'm doing this on Linux.

1. Downloaded the kernel source from Samsung and unzip and run the following from within the folder where you unzipped the source: find . -exec dos2unix {} +
2. Follow the directions from Get source (Android Open Source Project) to download the Android source and tools(arm compilers, etc). When you get to the part to run repo, do it within the Platform_Cupcake directory.
3. In the scripts directory, change the permissions on all shell scripts to allow execution, and edit build_kernel.sh so the two lines near the top that say CROSS_COMPILER only jump up one directory instead of two.
4. Create a symlink from kernel to kernel_2.6.27 in the top level directory.
5. Now run the build_kernel.sh script and watch it come to a stop

It stops because it cant find "drivers/fsr/Kconfig" I looked around and couldnt find anything. My guess is this fsr device is something Samsung is keeping closed, probably what deals with the rild.

Also another intersting thing is there are other build scripts that reference kernel patches that were not included, but if I understand the gpl correctly, they should have been released. Which is the same conclusion reached in a French forum Google Translate.

So yea not alot to add, but hey if someone more talented then me can build from this, good for you. You guys got my support.

Tried everything but it was officially bricked. The pc wouldn't even recognize it in the USB drive. I sent it off to Samsung to get fixed and they said it will take 5-10 business days and meanwhile T-mobile gave me a crappy loaner (samsung t229) until it comes back.

so I flashed ODIN and went back to stock behold 2 settings. but once again, was tired of touchwiz being there, lol, so I went ahead and did this all over. but, this time, I can't get the Mms.apk update working! after doing it, I am getting a force close when I try and send the message. This worked the first time I did this process, but now it is not. And I know I followed every step correctly.

;)wow where do you guys get the brains? I think its so cool what your talking about.I couldn't even begin to fathom what your doing. Cool stuff.

Haven't tried the Speakerphone fix yet because I don't really have a huge need to, but everything else works terrific. One note is that just doing an adb install on the MMS patch didn't work for me. What I ended up doing was going through the first few steps and removing the current Mms.apk file and then just simply brought up Astro and used it to install. MMS has been working terrifically ever since.

One note is that the Messaging app still seems to default to Notification on after a phone restart, so I have to go in and disable that each time I restart the phone so I don't get duplicate notifications from GV. Since I don't restart often at all though it's not really that big of a deal for me.

after installing this I let by battery drain completly and then I charged it fully with the phone powered off. After a full charge I turned it back on and it said 95% as always, and the same with the touchwiz rom, but anyways I turned it on at 11am and now it 11pm and I still have 65% and a have been using is averagly. I had wifi on four a few hours, browsed a few times, looked up stuff on maps and what not. My screen brightness is at 60%. All I can say is wow! I think I can acctually go on a whole nother day without a recharge! This rom rocks, and I cant imagine how much more a 2.x rom would save battery life!!!

I just ordered the Merlot MyTouch, I think I'm done with the whole Behold/Samsung experience.

jus kiddin, I'm still keeping the Behold 2 since it was free but I just can't rely on it as my primary device.

haha, dont give up on her yet lol, I want android 2.1 on it so bad!!! with wifi tethering and I will be a happy camper:D

guys i would say give this phone a chance, i have a behold 2 and a nexus one. after using nexus one the free amount of memory is about 40 to 20 MB but on samsung it is mostly 100 to 50 MB, i would say just wait for update and this phone will be flashing fast (not as fast as nexus one but still better than any other android phone) and i can say it for a fact as i have G1, mytouch and Nokia N900. i am looking for how to learn to cook a rom, or someone to teach me just alittle i will start doing something productive with all my phones :D

When you guys follow the instructions in the first page please remember that # means that they were commented out...

any line with # in the front is just a comment and does not have to be run as a command...

the # lines are just for developers to write a comment so they either know what part of that script does what or for readers of the script.

Its to late to try to fix it, you already screwed it up. do a complete restore with the odin files, then start over. copy and paste everything so you know its all typed correctly!

Just wanted to say that this works, and my phone is sooooo much ridiculously faster without TouchWiz. I am a total noob at this sort of thing, and several kind people on the #behold2 channel, including kam187, walked me through this process, step-by-step. If I can do it, and do it correctly, then anyone can.

Thanks again,

Murf
