Here's what my phone is saying about itself:Matt:Hi gang,
I'm completely new to the smartphone scene, but thanks to a talented, young IT-guy at my work, I'm in business. I have the Behold II running Galaxy. I'm just providing this is a brief record of what went down when I changed things around.
The scary-looking OS change from the annoying-spinning-cube went off (almost) without a hook. I used the instructions from this webpage.
The Installation
The only thing that was "iffy" was the last line of the Fix MMS Issues instructions (included in the following):
adb shellThe "cat /sdcard/Mms.apk > /system/app/Mms.apk" returned some kind of error that I was foolish enough not to save. But everything feels okay... so far.
su
rm /system/app/Mms.apk
cat /sdcard/Mms.apk > /system/app/Mms.apk
Thoughts?
Now the Issues
The camera is begging for a firmware upgrade, but it appears to be working. Like everyone else, I can't do any vibratin'. More irritating, though, is that I can't use the awesome voice recognition keyboard called "Talk to Me Keyboard". When I try to open it, I am returned the following error:
Google Voice Recognition:
Unfortunately, your phone does not have Google Voice Recognition. As TalkToMe Keyboard relies on this recognition, we recommend that you return this application for a full refund.
RESOLVED: After some searching (which ended up here), I was able to download the two files I needed to reinstall. Now all the voice-recognition works. I wonder why those aren't available on the market...
I think all the other base-functionality is working: WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and AutoSync. However, I can't figure out how to choose the WiFi network I should be joining. Any more thoughts?
Phone Info and the Firmware Question
I can see that there are many ongoing questions about what the future holds for those of us that can't stop meddling with our crap long enough to enjoy it.Here's what my phone is saying about itself:
Model Number: Galaxy (a blatant falsehood now, right?)I'm not posting this (not merely) to beg for aid, but just to provide further data for those of you with the real talent that makes this stuff happen. I hope there's something useful in it. I'm very interested in getting that voice-recognition back. I'm thoroughly impressed with the speed my phone exhibits. I think it's worth a few snafu's along the way.
Firmware Version: 1.5
Kernal Version: 2.6.27
All the best you you all and have a great weekend,
Matt

HELP! i flashed my BH2, and all went to plan except it seems like a few things didn't successfully install. when i go to the homescreen, it is missing market, browser, maps, the digital clock widget, and contacts won't boot up. without these things im pretty dead in the water, any ideas on how to fix it, do i have to Odin it and reflash over again?!?
if it it says no such file or directory you have already deleted it. Move to the next step.
RE progress:
The next step is to replace the kernel. I need someone who is willing to risk bricking their phone to progress. I dont have a behold 2 and never have had one so I can't do it. If anyone is willing to take the risk let me know. You should ASSUME you're phone will get bricked. If thats not ok, dont do it!
We had a couple of people before who had backup plans to get their bh2 replaced, but unfortunatly they didnt wait and listen, and randomly flashed things on their own which bricked their phones
I have several ideas, but without a phone to try it on there's nothing more we can do for now. The vibration fix is too much work for little reward. We would need to identify all the depenancies and probably patch the libraries. After all that work it would only fix vibration. It wouldnt help us run 2.1. Switching the kernel is the futureproof way to proceed.
Also please remember we don't work for samsung, so dont _expect_ support or updates. This is all for free and for fun! I dont even have a galaxy anymore nevermind a bh2. So this is 100% purely for fun.
