Galaxy Tab - Err - Laptop possible replacement?

gobluejd

GOBLUE!
Okay. So I have a Sony 15" Laptop that is fading fast (~4yrs old). My GF (who lives with me) has nice 17" DELL, son has a Acer Netbook and I have at work (5 mins away) a $8000 engineering PC. My GF also has a iPad, which I like but feel its too locked down. And that thing is heavy.

So......

I use my laptop for Gmail, Reader, web browsing (porn :) and of course here.

I have tossed around the idea of a MacBook Air (I know I know, but it's nice) at $1400, also thought I could get a Tablet and a cheap $600 laptop for the same price.....

But really my laptop is right next to wear I watch TV.

Can I get away with a Tablet knowing I have several PC's available to me quickly if I should need it?

I am seriously stressing....

Has anyone considered the same?

Thoughts?

I love my Tab and use it hourly. I use to carry a Netbook to work for lunch time surfing and email, now I just carry the Tab and take the keyboard dock with me. I leave the atab docked in tue keyboard and use Slacker while at work and take it with me for lunch.

I like it. But can not find a place to buy :(
ya it hasn't been released fully yet, due to some bugs I think it should be out January but its better wait then get it with a bunch of bugs :/ The main reason to stay away from the Tab is you have to pay for service with the 101 you can simply tether it to your phone so, ya you will have to wait or you can just get the Tab. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=734439&Q=&is=REG&A=details this website is allowing preorders

i don't use laptops anymore... I use my tab for pretty much everything at home, and jump to my desktop for things like games or photoshop etc.

So basically it has replaced my laptop. Only reason i keep it is because it runs xp and my gf plays a game on it that wont run on win7 desktop

I plan on getting a new Laptop for home use that has USB 3.0. I have an HTPC that I built with USB 3.0 so I want to be able to share large files between the two with USB 3.0 speeds. I had an XPS 15 on order but it took them since Oct 22nd to tell me the Advanced wireless card was no longer an option and so I cancelled my order. Horrible customer service nightmare.

Yeah, I've had really bad experience with DELL stuff. Our company laptops are dell and I shake my head everytime they give us a new one. Granted, I'm sure my company has specs that Dell uses but the build quality is just not there.

I too am buying a new laptop for the house. We're going to get rid of our ancient (5yr old) desktop and just get a laptop. I'm looking at a few different ones but don't need anything wild. We're not gamers and it will primarily be used for web and light work, it doesn't have to be crazy. I'm just looking forward to getting rid of the PC and the big desk that it occupies.

Now, I have been doing a lot of research and played with a lot of demo tablets and my answer would be yes and no. I mean yes it could replace a laptop in terms of gaming, music, etc, but you would have to get use to the way it works before you could replace it altogether in ur mind...

I mean for example if these Android tablets came out first we would be using them while questioning if a laptop can replace an Android...

So in the end its all up to if your willing to get use to it in terms of a laptop.

Thanks for the input. I am going to sit tight to see what is ahead for CES.

np :), and I suppose I should sit back and wait, but I am kind of a Tech geek so against all logic I am getting a Tab next month.

People have paid more for a GPS that could not come close to what the Tab does. Just for the GPS alone and not having to pay hundreds of dollars each year to update the GPS software the Galaxy Tab is worth every penny. It will replace my handheld scan tool for my cars as soon as the bluetooth adapter comes in.

Without doubt the Tab is now my number one device.....

I have 1x 18.4" Acer Laptop that is kitted to the hilt inc 2x500GB Hard Drives and an i7 processor
2x Fujitsu TabletPC's (ideal for pressure sensitive work)
1x Desktop PC (can't remember when I last switched it on)

The only machine from that list that gets used is the Acer. For all day-to-day stuff the Tab is great. Plus when I walk out it then becomes a true portable multimedia device.

Whatever you choose the Tablet is definitely a great choice.
