Help Gallery isn't responding

Hi everyone.

New user to forum.

I have the Galaxy Note 3. Live in the UK but currently on holiday in the States.

Three weeks ago I did the update as requested to Android 4.4.2. Since then everything works fine except for Gallery. The app becomes extremely sluggish or even stops. Then the message "Gallery isn't responding....do you want to close it?" appears.

Also some of my photos show but most others are just grey squares. I can scroll up and down them but they don't appear. It's as if there is a memory issue with Gallery. I can tell which are videos as the small "play" triangle shows on the grey background but no images.

After I have taken a picture the Camera also now seems slow to show me the result or even freezes before it does so.

I viewed other threads and followed their suggestion to download QuickPic but that is the same or even worse.

I'm not sure if me being here in the States affects my UK phone with regards to the update I have now downloaded onto it.

Extremely delighted with the phone otherwise but not being able to use the Camera and Gallery as I have successfully done prior to the update is driving me crazy.

Can anybody please advise me?

Are your pictures stored on the external SD Card?

Permissions for applications to access the external SD card were changed in KitKat but I'm not sure if this affects the built in gallery accessing the external SD Card, but it might.

Try moving a few pictures to the internal storage of the phone just to test if the same problem happens with these pictures.
 
I have heard that sometimes after an upgrade, one needs to factory reset their phone to get all the bugs out of it.

Of course, as this wipes the phone, many are reluctant to do so.

So back up what you need to if you decide to go this route. :)
