Gave AOSP a try and...

Sure, it was smooth as butter. And yes, there was zero lag while typing and dialing. And the benchmark figures were definitely better (my device, running better than the Droid? Sweet). Froyo is indeed better from a hardware optimization standpoint. However...

I just can't give up Sense. I hate it, cause this device is so laggy with 2.1 and 2.2 has alot of good features. But to me Sense's apps and widgets are not only superior to stock, but anything on the market. The calendar is awesome. The music player is the shit. Sad cause I flashed back to lower performance for better substance. BTW I'm just using the NFX completely stock ROM overclocked to 691.
 
Try Launcher Pro, the calendar widget it has is very similar to the one on the stock hero. LauncherPro widgets only come in the paid version though...as for the music player, there are way better ones on the market, in my opinion. I could never go back to putting up with a laggy phone, especially dialing a phone number and making calls.

Do you use your camera or bluetooth? If not, try the sense/froyo rom;)
 
I felt the same way. I liked sense until I found LauncherPro. Its the best home replacement out there. Its the best $4 I ever spent. I tried several different roms and didnt really care for any of them until i found CyanogenMod and havent looked back. the new CM6.1 stable rom is amazing!!!
 
Thanks for the advice! I got Launcher Pro Plus and the widgets are really good. They really give my home screens a purpose. Running the latest AOSP mod.
