Root GB OTA has started if you are rooted stock please read this

So I just flashed the most recent leaked radio as well as the ota install zip. When it booted up the lockscreen looked fine but upon unlocking it I got a white screen with "infinite" force close message dialog boxes! (pretty much all the apps) I rebooted a second time and it's the same thing. Any idea what to do now? I'm going to try another data and cache wipe in recovery.

Try fix permissions in recovery. You may need to reflash the rom but wipe cache, dalvik cache, /data, and /system first

I tried to fix permissions and reboot, no luck. I tried wiping the cache and data again and no luck. I also wiped everything and re-installed, still not working. Should I go with an official ruu now? How do I get it on the sd card without a system? I assume there is some sort of hboot utility. Thanks so much for your quick responses!

Edit: I'm downloading the "AndroidPolice_PG05IMG_Mecha_2.11.605.2." RUU right now

You can mount the SD to a CPU either with a card reader or using recovery. So did you wipe/format all 4 partitions I suggested and flash the rom again nice a clean?

What version of CWM are you using?

Yes I wiped all four partitions. I'm using Clockworkmod 4.0.1.4 (the revolutionary version) I unfortunately don't have an sd card reader, however I was able to mount it through clockworkmod.

Do you have a backup you can flash? Or try a slightly older rom and then update your recovery after you can boot update CWM and try flashing back to the new rom.

Yeahha, I really appreciate how much you have done for me. Many thanks for your almost instant responses. The android community has never ceased to amaze me. I've restored a backup and decided to call it a night. Phew... Thanks again!

I am glad it worked for you. The radio should still be the most recent that you flashed so you don't have to worry about that again, once you get the newer recovery flashed you should be able to flash back to the newer rom

Formatting /system seems to have worked for most users to fix hangs and force closes.

Don't flash an RUU unless you have rooted with revolutionary.especially that one as it is 2 builds old... current firmware(with working vm and dropped calls/disappearing phone signal ;)) is 2.11.605.5

if you have rooted with revolutionary, you have the unique option to simply recieve the ota, after replaceing your recovery with the stock one. the revolutionary hboot will not disapear after the update, and it will allow you to easily reroot.

biggest advantage of doing this is that it will not wipe your data or require you to re-setup your phone.

check your firmware in settings/about phone.

if you have 1.70.605.0,then use this recovery:
MR2: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!
md5: a3320797390e3d746a67fda915854b16

if you have 2.11.605.3 then use this recovery:
GB 2.11.605.3: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!
md5: a3f6155023f3c928d0cd229516a441e1

download, rename PG05IMG and flash in hboot,as you would a radio or any other recovery.

*MAKE SURE to double check your MD5 sums to verify the integrity

*MAKE SURE you are on one of those 2 firmwares. if youre on something else,i cannot gaurantee that mixing the recovery with a different firmware is acceptable and will not cause issue.
Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I can flash the stock recovery in hboot, receive the OTA without losing data, then flash clockworkmod recovery from hboot and then root again through clockworkmod.

Correct :)

Assuming you have rooted with revolutionary

I'm not very familiar with the stock HTC recovery, but I was wondering if it has options to mount the SD card through USB. The only thing I'm worried about is the OTA failing (it shouldn't cause I'm running stock rooted Froyo with no modifications) and being stuck without an OS or Clockworkmod recovery. I don't have a SD card reader so I don't know how I would get Clockworkmod on the SD and flash it through Hboot if the OTA does fail. I just want to clarify things before I attempt this. Thanks!

If you are on a different radio than stock I don't think you will get the OTA

Yea that's something I failed to think about. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I'm currently on the 5th Gingerbread radio leak, but I think the I may just have to try it and see if the OTA works. About my other question, what options does the stock HTC recovery have?

None. It is completely devoid of any user interface.

You will have to flash the radio, flash the recovery, then wait. And hope the ota comes. It may not,if you have allready cleared the caches form a failed attempt.

It may be faster to flash the rooted rom in recovery. When you were having force close prollems, were you attemptig to restore system data with tibu?

My DW and I both have Tb's that were rooted using Revolutionary Root. This was about two months ago. I believe she had a newer OTA than I did but I cannot remember which one. Both phones were working fine. My phone has had no problems and no OTA's have tried to come over my phone(Running 2.2.1 and no available updates show up in the software update area in settings). My wife's phone keeps trying to install 2.11.605.5 to her phone. The first time it pushed through and it said the update failed. Since then she has to keep clearing the cache and rebooting every time it tries to install. I have been reading all kinds of threads on what I should do. I have never installed another ROM or know how to check MD5. I would like tot get GB running on her phone so she does not have any further problems and possibly not have to wipe her phone. I read post #2 and downloaded the file. Could someone possibly give me a cliff note version of what I have to do to get this done. I am a little overwhelmed by all the info I am reading and really do not want to brick her phone. I would gladly buy someone a Six pack of their favorite beer for their troubles :)

to accept the OTA:
1)download the recovery that matches the firmware
2)check its md5
3)move to root of sd card,rename PG05IMG
4)check md5 again with scary aliens AFV(avaialble in the market)
5)power phone off, then boot into hboot via power on/volume down
6)chose yes to update with vol up
7)when finished reboot
9)immediately remove or rename PG05IMG
10)collect underpants
11)??
12)proffits! :D
13)wait for OTA and let it happen. if it fails your best bet is to install the rooted rom as described in post 1

*note in order for it to work, youll need to be on mr2 radios, and the OTA will have to start from the point where it downloads the new firmware,as wiping the caches had wiped it from the phones memory. it may try and install, but wont do so unless it redownloads, complete with the arrow in the status bar,and the green bar in the pull down showing progress.

Sort if relevant to the topic, does the revolutionary root method still work with the new OTA? The reason I ask is I cracked my screen a while ago and I'm finally starting to get sick of looking at it, so I'm going to
get a replacement. Just want to, make sure I can still root using revolutionary when I get a new one. Id rather have a mildly cracked rooted TB then a new unrootable TB

Sorry to bring this back up again, but I rooted my phone w/ revolutionary and after my phone tried to update itself, I attempted (multiple times) to flash the stock recovery to no avail. Every time I would wipe cache and dalvic, move and rename the PG05IMG file on the SD cards, boot into hboot, press volume up (it would update in a few short seconds and ask to restart). Then, after removing that PG05IMG file, if I try the update again it would fail. I am at the point where I am ready to flash a new rom, but now I cant boot into recovery. Every time I select that option from hboot, the phone resets and displays the ! triangle.

I'm tired of waking up and having to pull the battery every morning. Especially considering it is my alarm clock. Just about done backing everything up and ready to flash a new ROM if necessary.
