GB OTA has started

Got the update. Its NOT pulled. All looks and works well. No problem with Verizon VM notification for me. TB definitely snappier, some nice new updates and features, nothing to go nuts over, BUT the one thing I was really after...better battery life...appears to be a bust. Battery life seems the same so far. I use Advanced Task Killer and do all the stuff we all know about but I think this phone is just not ever going to get good battery life. Plain and simple. I will just have to deal with it for 6 months and then on to something else.

If you are using verizon voice mail, call your phone and leave a message. The notification will not pop up until you reboot. You can get the vm by dialing it but no noti. If it's like previously leaked updates then after a reboot and you retrieve the vm, then the noti will not go away until another reboot. If your experience differs perhaps you don't actually have the OTA update.

Conflicting results on VM notifications. Some seem to have it, others not.

I do not. Checked it 5 times... nada.

However, I noticed that if I go to the stock messaging app, select the voice mail button at the bottom, there is a notice (under the visual voice mail sign up notice) which shows I have 5 voice mails (tap to retrieve).

Mine haven't asked me for an update. I have the Thunderbolt with Android version 2.2.1 and when I go to Software Update and Check New a popup comes up and it says "Checking for new software available now" but then it closes. If I click on Status it only shows the Source (Verizon Wireless) and everything else is empty. How do I get the update?

VM notifications seem to be working for me and I also noticed that auto capitalization and spacing now work on Swype in the stock messaging app

I saw this behavior with the previous update. It seems that VZW does a phased rollout of the updates. When an update IS available bot has NOT been slated to go to your area, you get the bahavior you are experiencing. Just keep trying a couple of times a day and you should get it eventually.

It's a strange bahavior to me, but it does kind of make sense. There IS an update available, but you're not getting it yet, so that do not report "no update available" but it is disconcerting that they report nothing!

That sounds good. help me out with getting swype. due to those reasons not working I chose not to deal with swype, but now that u say all is good as it should have been anyway, could and would you share where and how u copped that swype action. Tanks in advance.

i manually checked, started the download, lost my data connection so the download failed and now when I check manually it says now software update available???

Had the same issue happen to me. Need some help from those that successfully applied the download. What android and software version does your phone say you are currently on now? (Go to About Phone > Software information)

Mine states Android version 2.2.1 and software version 1.70.605.0

do not use a task killer

Well after the long wait I finally downloaded and installed GB for my bolt. I had one of the strange phones in that everything worked on it. After the GB update I have lost my Voice Mail notification. Wondering if this happened to anyone else!:(

This is a well known bug...the OTA update was leaked a few days ago. You are not alone. Verizon customer service peeps going to get some overtime.

Well I don't use the stock rom but think if I call I can get them to waive the fee for my VVM as it will have a text sent to me when I get a new VM and since the notification isn't working that service is needed, unless of course VZW is going to recommend I use a service from a different provider (Google)

Happened to me as well. As indicated above, it's a known issue. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Also, not really noticing much if any improvement in battery life.

you can thank sense for that ;) the factory rom is so large and resource intensive it wont surprise me for most folks to not notice much difference.

if you ran AOSP froyo then GB the difference would be more noticeable. :)

*snicker* just VM notifications and gtalk/video... if youve missed the million other threads discussing it ;)

Google Talk w/ Video does not work w/ OTA gingerbread update.

This sucks, This is the entire reason I have been waiting for 2.3.

I'm very disappointed.

Who should I be upset @ HTC or Google?
