Gemini Calendar - my vision of calendar software

I'm having the same problem as above - i have a blank screen with the Snooze all, Custom Snooze and Dismiss options...but there is no way to see/select what i am snoozing.
The reminder then keeps coming back. ..

Can anyone provide an explanation of the Snooze buttons and *exactly* what events they refer to - as you can't choose (that I can see anyway). Also, reminders in general. I had one this morning that was still in my notification bar for an all-day event from yesterday. Don't these notifications disappear AFTER the event or do they need to be explicitly cleared?

Dear users,
Today I am changing the domain address from gemini-mobile.com to

mobilepaprika.com

This is rather a cosmetic change, but using the occasion, I have updated the web content, I hope you will find it more interesting. I will try to keep the web up to date from now on.

Gemini Calendar does not change its name, for now.

You will see a new update in Android Market soon, regarding the new domain name.

Thanks,
powell.

Hi,
I am using Gemini - and it works perfectly well!
...except for one small annoyance... double reminders. I have been searching for answers and found many replies to "just" disable alarms in the stock application. The only problem is that I can't find anywhere to do this on my X10 mini pro :-(
I have been looking in the calendar app and in the overall settings without any luck
I hope You guys are able to help me!

I had the same problem with double reminders and found that I had to turn off alerts and notifications on my stock calendar to stop the problem. I had to click on "more" then settings. Of course I don't have an X10 mini pro but hopefully it is similar.

Don;t know about your specific phone, but you could disable the reminders in Gemini instead?

Yes - I could do that... but my primary purpose for searching for an alternate calendar application is the ridiculosly bad notifications in the stock application that Sony Ericsson ships with the phone... So I would rather not do that.

That's exactly what I want... but I just cant find a single setting regarding the calendar in the phone... :-(
It appears that the stock app are not google/android but a SE invention...

If I remember correctly, Gemini works by pushing whatever events you enter in Gemini through to the stock calendar app, as well as reading the stock app to show events on screen. Presumably, for it to work on different phones there must be an API which Gemini is calling to add or change an event in the stock calendar, which is consistent on every phone. Further presumably (doing alot of presuming here, I know), part of that API is something to set the alert type (otherwise the stock calendar might not be giving any alerts at all for events entered in Gemini).

So, feature request for Gemini: an option to disable the setting of alerts in the stock app for events entered using Gemini.

This wouldn't prevent existing events entered directly in the stock app from being double-alerted, so the same feature request could do the opposite as well, i.e. disable the alert in Gemini for any event which was entered or changed using the stock app. Whether Gemini works that way (i.e. if it can tell whether a change in a stock calendar event was due to Gemini requesting such a change) is another matter. If it doesn't, it could perhaps set the event type in the stock calendar for any event which gives it an update, but I don't know if the alert type can be set independently that way.

I don't know about this. I must admit that I (like you) don't know - but I think Gemini are based on an underlying database. To support this, I have seen an article describing how to remove the stock calendar on a rooted phone.
But, it would certanly be nice if Gemini could disable the stock app notifications...

Never the less... I have found out that SE are in fact using the Google calendar app. And that there are supposed to be menus inside the application - where disabling notifications should be available.
BUT - the menus are not present in my phone - and I have found out that other users have the same problem on the X10 mini / mini pro... So now I just have to figure out how to make the app work again...

It states somewhere back in this thread that Gemini does just present an interface to the stock calendar (can't be bothered to read the whole thread again to find out which post mind!). However, it would be nice if someone from Gemini could let us know how the alerts work, plus the queries I have earlier regarding reminders.

The following works for me on my rooted 2.2 (Eris) phone. YMMV.

Are you unable to find any stock calendar settings at all?

Run the stock calendar.

Menu -> More -> Settings

Now there are a bunch of sections. In the "Reminder settings" section there's a submenu "Set alerts & notifications". If you press on this it offers you a choice of ("Alert","Status bar notification","Off"). Select "Off".

No settings at all... I found the SE manual and when I follow the instructions and press menu inside the calendar app... nothing happens... :-(
I searched the SE user support forum and several people have the same problem but I could not find any answers...

Hi

Could some kind soul please help me with the following issue: -

I have set up a weekly (Friday) recurring appointment (one of many!) at 09.00hrs to 15.30hrs where my grandfather attends a day centre. I am his full-time carer.

Working on today's date, 10 December 2010, every time I try to delete a past event, namely today's past occurrence of the aforementioned event, it is 16.55hrs now, I get the following choices: -

1. All events in the series
2. This and all future events

Nowhere does it say, or allow me, to delete this one occurrence.

Does anybody know how to do this?

TIA

Hello, Thanks for the great calendar. I was looking for something a little more friendly than the stock one and it's perfect.
I was a Palm user until I made the big leap to the Galaxy S smart phone.
I would like to be able to back up the calendar like I used to, on a desktop.
Is this possible.
Tx

My *backup* is Outlook (I use Office 2000) and I use MyPhoneExplorer ( ... FJ Software Development ... ) to sync my phone (Desire HD) with my PC - contacts as well. Gemini just sits on top of, and reads from, the stock Android calendar so the sync is very easy.

It states somewhere back in this thread that Gemini does just present an interface to the stock calendar

This is NOT true.
Gemini calendar is a standalone calendar application, that can exist without a stock calendar. However, it uses the same calendar database as stock calendar, so event entered in Gemini will appear in stock calendar and vice versa.
Notification system in Gemini is also completely independent, but it is based on the same so-called Intents (internal system messages sent to initiate some activities). Stock calendars and Gemini reacts on the same Intent, sent from the calendar database. In a perfect world, every application should give the user possibility to turn off the 'Intent reading' -> reacting on the calendar notifications. Gemini Calendar does this (you can disable notifications in Preferences), most stock calendar does this also.
However, some device manufacturers in their modifications of Android system does not let the notifications to be disabled. I cannot - as a programmer of Gemini Calendar - force other app to ignore intents, so it is kind of stalemate situation.
I am thinking of this problem, I hope I will find solution.

You probably have not your calendar synced with online account.
I recommend to read FAQ section on my site.

Backing up will be possible in the future. Until then, your backup is a Google Calendar online, providing you synchronize your data. I would strongly recommend to do that.

Ah, I think this may be a case of Chinese Whispers as I've been reading this thread. It uses the calendar *database*, not the calendar itself, right, got it. Sorry if anyone's been misled.

Notification system in Gemini is also completely independent, but it is based on the same so-called Intents (internal system messages sent to initiate some activities). Stock calendars and Gemini reacts on the same Intent, sent from the calendar database.
So let me get this straight.

The calendar database that you both use surely must contain alert types for each event in order for it to send these intents. But if you were to do as I was thinking and set the event alert type to be no alert in the database, then the stock calendar won't receive an intent that the event has happened, but then neither will you!

I'm assuming that the database won't send an intent if the alert type for an event is set to have no alert? So you have to leave the alerts in place, but then the stock calendar acts on them, which is not what taugusti wants and can't switch off.

Is that right?

Ok, Gemini can run without a stock calendar there. taugusti, if you're using Gemini in its place, can you force stop the stock calendar? It can't give any notifications if it's not running. On my phone it's Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications > Select the app > Force stop, but of course may be different on yours.

Thanks for being more specific about that. I think I meant the same thing, just that I didn't know that the *stock calendar* read from an independent database. You live and learn .....

As for the reminders, I *think* I have managed to turn all of mine off from the stock calendar (HTC Desire HD running *stock 2.2) but will need to read the manual just to check (some settings are rather ambiguous!).

Thanks for getting back to me.

But any comments on the 'snooze' buttons in Gemini?

Mine's a Desire HD and the SW drivers need to be installed AFAIK. At least, I have the whole HTC Sync SW installed, which obviously includes the drivers, and MPE will connect.

Have you tried different cables/USB ports? Sometimes that'll elimiate a problem like this.

Or go visit the MPE forums over at their web site and 'search' for the problem there.

hi
I'm a long time palm user also, and I've spent the last 3 days since i've switched to android to find a replacement calendar program. I just downloaded gemini today, after spending hours reading this entire thread. I'm really disappointed that you really haven't addressed the color coding option which several people have mentioned. I have 2 jobs with different shift schedules and 4 kids with different sports and other activities to keep track of. I could do that easily on my palm with the different color options and placement of dots ( top, middle, bottom) corresponding to the approximate time of day. On a month calendar I could quickly see and know my schedule that way. Could you PLEASE add such a function in your otherwise great app?
Thank you & I will donate soon.

How much would I have to donate right now to get Agenda View up and running lol? That's the only thing I need that is not there yet (I like to see whats coming up before its due).

I love the app by the way (5 stars even in its non completed state)

Hi Powell. I just got an HTC EVO 4G and I think you're calendar is the best.

I would like to request a full-screen widget (combined month and day view) so that I can replace the HTC widget.

THANKS for the GREAT App!

Me, too! I really like the split (month and agenda view) and would love to have a full size widget so that it's always open - it would make this calendar perfect for me!

I would also love choices of colors - but that's just frosting on the cake, really.

I REALLY love this calendar and it is the only one that gives me what I had on my bb - nice job!!
